Houston was born in Brooklyn, New York City, and is the son of Colette and Lloyd Houston. He also has a sister named Tonza, and is of Guyanese and Brazilian ethnicity, and an American citizen. Houston graduated from the University of Florida and also attended Manhattan Theatre Club to hone his skills in acting.

Houston’s career started out accidentally. He was accompanying his older sister when she was auditioning for a well-known agency, but when the staff heard him making jokes they asked him to audition as well. He was signed but not his sister, but there was no bad blood between the two. Houston then started appearing in various commercials as a child actor. His debut on television came in 1992 when he appeared in “The Cosby Show,” with his early years helping to train him as an actor, and also establishing his net worth even at an early age.
After stepping back from the limelight for a number of years, Houston went back to acting in 2002, and joined the long-running series “Guiding Light,” playing the role of Remy Boudreau as a regular cast member from 2002 through 2006.
