Emily Lynne Berthold spent her childhood in the Long Island town of Sea Cliff, where she was raised alongside her sister by her father, the late Michael Thomas Berthold, who worked as an architect, and her mother, Laura Campbell, who is a parent educator. She is the younger sister of professional actress and comedian Kate McKinnon.
Regarding her education, Emily probably attended North Shore High School, and upon matriculation, she enrolled into the State University of New York at Purchase to study Film.
