Born Conan Christopher O’Brien on the 18th April 1963, in Brookline, Massachusetts USA, he is a television host, comedian, writer and producer as well, best known to the world for hosting several late night talk shows, including “Conan” on TBS since 2010, and before that “Late Night”, and “The Tonight Show”, among others.
Career Beginnings
His career started in the late ‘80s; he was first the writer for the HBO’s series “Not Necessarily the News”, and “The Wilton North Report”, while also becoming a part of the comedy troupe “The Groundlings”, before in 1988 being hired directly by Lorne Michaels as the writer for “Saturday Night Live”. In 1991 he quite “SNL” after one of his sketches failed to be incorporated into the show, and in the next two years he worked as a writer and producer for “The Simpsons”.
Rise to Prominence and Awards
In 1993 all changed for Conan, when he was selected as the new host of the “Late Night” show when David Letterman announced that he was leaving. His debut was welcomed with unfavorable critiques, but as time passed his performance improved, and Conan became a star. He was the host of “Late Night” until 2009 and since 2010 he has been the host of his own show “Conan”, which airs on cable station TBS. Since launching his career, Conan has won a number of awards, including three Primetime Emmys from 22 nominations, and has also received six Writers Guild of America Awards for his work.
