Lil Dicky Wiki Bio
David Andrew Burd was born in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania USA on 15 March 1988, so under the zodiac sign of Pisces and holding American nationality – better known by his pseudonym Lil Dicky (LD), he is a popular rapper and a comedian.
Lil Dicky split up with girlfriend Molly
Lil Dicky split up with his girlfriend Molly sometime in 2015, but published his song “Molly” in June 2016, and dedicated it to the girl he used to date – as the song says, he always put her second after rap, and therefore understands why she wouldn’t take him back. Because he is a hopeless romantic as he stated himself, the video shows a sad story of him attending the wedding of his ex-girlfriend Molly.
Early life and education
Lil Dicky spent his childhood in Cheltenham Township with his parents, but rarely talks about his family and therefore nothing is known about them. He fell in love with music while attending elementary school – he even rapped during his history presentation about Alexander Pushkin in the fifth grade.
Lil Dicky stated himself that he was only interested in grades while he was attending Cheltenham High School, he wasn’t bright at all and was the clown of the class – he wasn’t getting any girls either. However, after he matriculated he enrolled at the University of Richmond, and graduated magna cum laude in 2010.
The launch of his career
Just as most rappers, Lil Dicky worked at several places before he decided to focus on his rapping career. As soon as he got his degree, he moved to San Francisco in California, and began working in the account management field, and served as a copywriter for ads.
After a year, he began paying more attention to his rapping career, and started making his first mixtape in 2011. At first, he only wanted to make people laugh and wanted his rapping start to lead to writing movie scripts and TV series, however, he began to love rap rather more, and decided to stay with it.
As he was still working in the account management agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, it took him two years to finish his first mixtape entitled “So Hard” – he didn’t release the entire mixtape immediately, but rather chose to publish one song per week. That turned out to be a good idea, as it made people wait and look forward to his next song – it took Lil Dicky five months to publish all the songs.
He made his first video for his “Ex-Boyfriend” song, which turned out to be a major hit as it was viewed for over one million times during the first week of its release. However, he soon ran out of money, and asked for donations on the Kickstarter website – he wanted to raise $70,000, but ended up getting over $110,000 in just 30 days.
Becoming popular and his first concerts
On 19 February 2014 Lil Dicky had his first concert at TLA in Philadelphia, and at the same time signed a contract with CMSN. He didn’t give up on his dreams of becoming a script writer, but instead decided to have a dual career – one dedicated to rapping and the other to writing and being a comedian.
He landed his first album in July 2015 on which he worked with some of the most popular rappers in the US, including Snoop Dogg. Two years passed after that before he released his first extended play (EP) entitled “I’m Brain” in September 2017 and his single “Freaky Friday” in March 2018, which featured Chris Brown and was a major hit, the most popular song in both New Zealand and the UK.
Even though Lil Dicky wanted to work on his career of a writer, it still hasn’t worked out for him, and he hasn’t been credited with anything in the film industry.
Money matters
During one of his interviews, Lil Dicky stated how he would be lying if he said that money did not matter. He’s had ups and downs during his career and he sometimes found himself in a situation where he did not have the money to make a video or record a song. That is history now as he is making millions – the video for his song “Pillow Talking” cost so much because of the special effects, that it is said to be the 49th most expensive video ever made.
