Asap Rocky Wiki: Age, Childhood, Education
Born as Rakim Mayers on the 3rd October 1988 in Harlem, New York City USA, he is of African-American ancestry from her mother’s side, while his father is from Barbados. He is the youngest child in the family – he had an older brother who was killed when ASAP was only 13 years old, while his older sister’s name is Erika B. Mayers.
When ASAP was nine years old, he and the family moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he started rapping, inspired by his older brother who was a big idol in ASAP’s eyes – he even wore a French braids hairdo, which Rocky later started wearing himself. ASAP was 12 when his father was arrested and sent to jail for dealing drugs, then his brother was killed in Harlem the following year. So, in order to support himself and his older sister and mother, he would team up with them and also sell drugs, and at just 13 years of age, ASAP was involved in his first orgy. Unsurprisingly, before he started his professional career, ASAP Rocky spent two weeks in Rikers Island prison for drug dealing.
Career Beginnings
It was in 2007 that Rocky launched his career; he became a part of the Harlem-based rap crew ASAP Mob, which consisted of ASAP Yams, ASAP Lillz, and ASAP Bari. Four years later Rocky released his first song – “Purple Swag” – which in no time became a street anthem in New York. Encouraged, ASAP Rocky continued to make music, and in August the same year he released “Peso”, which also became a hit. In October, Asap released his debut mixtape “Live. Love. A$AP”, which received positive reviews and gained him a $3 million record deal with RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music. Once he signed the contract, Rocky founded his own record label, ASAP Worldwide.
