Early Life

Jhené is the daughter of Christina Yamamoto, of Japanese, Spanish and Dominican ancestry, and Karamo Chilombo, born into a family of African American, Native American, Jewish and German family. She spent her formative years in Ladera Heights where she was homeschooled, and later on took vocal lessons in Culver City, deciding to pursue her career on a serious level. However, she quit lessons when she got pregnant, but still went on to become a big name in the music world. Judging from the photos available on the internet, the singer has a fit figure, dark hair which she sometimes dyes different colors, and dark eyes.

In 2013, Aiko made her debut with the EP entitled “Sail Out”, released through Def Jam Records, consisting of seven tracks such as “The Vapors”, “Bed Peace”, “The Worst” and “WTH”, working in collaboration with artists such as Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, Donald Glover and Chris Le, and which received a generally positive response. In the following year, she released the studio album entitled “Souled Out”, which included songs such as “To Love & Die”, “Spotless Mind”, “The Pressure” and “Lyin King”, and which debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200, having sold 70,000 copies in the first week of its release. In addition, it took first place on the US Top R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums and the US R&B Albums charts. In 2017, Aiko released her latest album under the title “Trip”, comprising 22 tracks including “While We’re Young”, “Moments”, “When We Love” and “You Are Here”; a day prior to its release, she released a 23-minute autobiographical film with the same title. The album was described as “a moody yet breezy continuation of her established aesthetic, that ultimately lacks growth of her musical capabilities”. Another critic said that the album works because it’s not just about self-medicating or journeying though a grief-ridden mind. Overall, the singer has produced three albums, but there is more to come for her, as she has succeeded in establishing herself in the music world.

Collaborative Albums

Jhené has made one collaborative album, with the critically acclaimed musician Big Sean. The duo, named Twenty88, released a self-entitled album, consisting of eight tracks such as “Déjà Vu”, “On the Way”, “2 Minute Warning’ and “Memories Faded”. It peaked at number one on US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard) chart, and number five on US Billboard 200, in addition to receiving a positive response in the UK and Canada.

Aiko has made two solo tours – Enter the Void Tour and Trip (The Tour). In addition, she has participated in tours such as Forest Hills Drive Tour, Would You Like a Tour, King of the Fall Tour and The High Road Summer Tour, collaborating with artists such as J. Cole, Drake, The Weeknd, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa.

Private Life

When it comes to Aiko’s religion, she was baptized at the age of 16 at the evangelical Pentecostal Foursquare Church. Unfortunately, her brother passed away shortly afterwards. In August 2013, she was involved in a car accident in Los Angeles, suffering a broken wrist and a chipped tooth, but luckily her daughter was unharmed. In March 2016, she revealed that she was married to Oladipo “Dot da Genius” Omishore, but in August of the same year she filed for divorce, stating that they had irreconcilable differences, which was ultimately finalized in late 2017. There were rumors surrounding her relationship with Big Sean, and Jhené eventually confirmed them in a post on Instagram. She is living a vegan lifestyle, and was name PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity of 2016. In addition to that, she posed nude for their anti-fur campaign.
