Jhené is the daughter of Christina Yamamoto, of Japanese, Spanish and Dominican ancestry, and Karamo Chilombo, born into a family of African American, Native American, Jewish and German family. She spent her formative years in Ladera Heights where she was homeschooled, and later on took vocal lessons in Culver City, deciding to pursue her career on a serious level. However, she quit lessons when she got pregnant, but still went on to become a big name in the music world. Judging from the photos available on the internet, the singer has a fit figure, dark hair which she sometimes dyes different colors, and dark eyes.

In 2013, Aiko made her debut with the EP entitled “Sail Out”, released through Def Jam Records, consisting of seven tracks such as “The Vapors”, “Bed Peace”, “The Worst” and “WTH”, working in collaboration with artists such as Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, Donald Glover and Chris Le, and which received a generally positive response.
