Hasan attended the University of California, Davis and studied political science. While in the university, he saw the Chris Rock stand-up special entitled “Never Scared”, which sparked his interest in comedy, and soon he was travelling to San Francisco to perform stand-up as well. In 2008, he joined the Best Comic Standing competition held by Wild 94.9, which he won, and it led him to become the opening act for comedians such as Pablo Francisco, Gabriel Iglesias and Katt Williams. He also started writing comedy while working on the website Ning.
Comedy Career
Minhaj soon started looking for more opportunities in comedy, and moved to Los Angeles to become a part of the NBC event “Stand-up for Diversity”, which he became a finalist. He was subsequently given a recurring role in the television situational comedy “State of Georgia”, and then had a starring part in the hidden camera show “Disaster Date”, in which he played numerous roles. Eventually, he was cast to host “Failosophy”, is a comedy television, and in 2013, he appeared as a guest on shows such as “Getting On” and “Arrested Development”.
The following year, he then tried his hand at voice acting, as Rabi Ray Rana in the video game “Far Cry 4”, and also hosted the web series “The Truth with Hasan Minhaj”. Later in the year he joined “The Daily Show” as a correspondent – he initially had no material prepared for his audition, but later acquired material for Batman vs Bill Maher from an exchange between Ben Affleck and Bill Maher about Islam.

Later Endeavors
The following year, Hasan created his first stand-up special entitled “Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King” which became a part of Netflix in 2017. The special initially started as a one-man off-Broadway show in 2015 entitled “Homecoming King”, and featured the experience of an immigrant to the US today based on stories of Hasan’s life. The special was filmed at the Mondavi Center, and would go on to win a Peabody Award. He is also set to have his own weekly talk show with Netflix.
Personal Life and Social Media
Minhaj married Beena Patel in 2015 – the couple met while at the University of California, Davis. His wife is a Doctor of Public Health, and is a management consultant for MedAmerica, working particularly with homeless patients. His wife is from a Hindu family and they reside in New York City. They also now have a daughter, born in 2018.
