The Net Worth of Marie Harf

How rich is Marie Harf? As of mid-2018, sources estimate a net worth that is over $1 million, mostly earned through a successful career on television, but also through her work with the government. As she continues her endeavors, it is expected that her wealth will also continue to increase.

Education and Career Beginnings

While Marie was born in Chicago, she grew up in Granville, Ohio where both her parents are from. She attended Granville High School and after matriculating in 1999, enrolled in Indiana University, Bloomington where she studied Political Science with a concentration on both Jewish Studies as well as Russian and Eastern European Studies. After graduating, she furthered her studies by enrolling in the University of Virginia to obtain a master’s degree in Foreign Affairs, with her thesis focused on the continued regime stability in Saudi Arabia.

After completing her masters, she began her career with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) at the Directorate of Intelligence, where she worked as an analyst focusing on Middle Eastern leadership issues, which lead her to become the media spokesperson on the subject for the CIA. During the 2012 presidential election, it was reported that she helped US President Barack Obama’s national security and communications strategy, serving as the campaign spokesperson regarding national security issues.

Government and Commentary Work

In 2013, Harf was assigned as Deputy Spokesperson for the Department of the State serving under Jen Psaki. Two years later, she got into a controversy during an interview on the show “Hardball with Chris Matthews”, when she was questioned regarding US strategy against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Rather than addressing the issue directly, she went on to talk about giving job opportunities for people, which led to critics ridiculing her on social media. The interview was released a day before an ISIS video showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya.

Two years later, Harf was interviewed for the position of Spokesperson for the Department of State, but lost out to retiring US Navy Rear Admiral John Kirby – the two had previously battled for another spokesperson position at the US Department of Defense, but it was deemed that an experienced military public affairs officer would serve better compared to a civilian political appointee. After leaving her role as Acting Spokesperson, she began to work for Secretary of State John Kerry as Senior Advisor, including leading the Iran nuclear negotiations communications strategy. In 2017, she started working as a political commentator with the Fox News Channel.

Personal Life

For her personal life, it is known that Marie married Joshua Lucas in 2012, in Vienna at the Vienna Presbyterian Church attended by friends and family members; they were also wed by a long-time friend of the couple who is also an Anglican priest. There hasn’t been any intentions to have children yet. For her husband, what little is known is that he hails from England and took up a master’s degree in diplomacy from Tufts University.

Is Marie Harf on Social Media?

Similarly through numerous television personalities, Harf is also active online through social media, having accounts on several high profile websites including Instagram and Facebook. However, they don’t function necessarily in the same manner as other public personalities, as most of her accounts are set to private. Her Facebook page is private, and rarely shows any pictures aside from a few photos already available to the public of her attending various events. Her Instagram account is set to private too, so there aren’t any photos that can be seen there.

She does not have a Twitter account, but there are numerous fan and fake accounts on the website which aren’t really active. Numerous video clips of her are available online through the website YouTube, which mainly consist of replays of her previous television or public appearances. She does promote a web page of one of her most recent projects, a radio program on Fox News radio called “Benson and Harf”, which is focused on discussing the most recent political and international events. Her husband on the other hand remains a very private person, and does not have any public social media accounts.
