After matriculating, she attended Oberlin College and initially studying for a degree in music, but later shifted to English. She was a working student at Oberlin, and served as a tax preparation aide as well as a network news librarian. She also wrote for a school publication, and attracted controversy with an article criticizing one of the school’s programs, which led to a negative response from students. She graduated in 1992, and commenced her professional, paid career in journalism being employed by the Los Angeles Daily News.
Writing and Television Career
However, she left the show in 2007 due to a mishandling of Fox News in the dispute over her and Geraldo Rivera, who made derogatory statements about her during an interview. She has since focused more on writing, though at times appearing in the show “Fox & Friends” working with Sean Hannity. She’s also done a lot of blogging work, and has travelled around the country as a public speaker. She’s written six books so far, and her first book entitled “Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces” was a New York Times bestseller.
Controversies and Other Projects
Michelle was among the first who questioned the credibility of Iraqi source Jamil Hussein who had been used by the Associated Press regarding stories about the Iraq war. She visited Baghdad on one occasion, and spoke with the Iraqi Ministry of Interior which said that Hussein did not exist; reports done by the Associated Press about Iraq were later proven to be untrue, however, she later issued a correction of her statement about Hussein not existing. Another known issue she had was with Students Against War (SAW), which is based at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She later published the contact details of three student leaders of the organization, which led to numerous death threats and anti-Semitic comments, and precipitated a blog war in which Michelle’s home address and phone number were leaked, causing her to move her family to another location.
She is also known to be a contributor to the website VDARE, which is known for developing the book “Alien Nation: Common Sense About America’s Immigration Disaster”. She also established the blog Hot Air, which was later bought by Salem Communications.
