She was educated at Socastee High School located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and matriculated in 1992. She then enrolled at Union County College in New Jersey, completing her degree there before attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and also completing a degree at Wofford College located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she was the president of the student body, and captain of the school’s golf team.
After completing her education, Nix would then start working in sports broadcasting, for various networks including NESN and WPDE located in South Carolina, and she also reported for Fox Sports Net. In 2003, she joined WHDH located in Boston, where she became a weekend sports anchor, staying in the role for three years. She was then offered a role at ESPN and soon left WHDH to take up the offer, although she still remains on the WHDH weekend show “Sports Extra”, as an occasional guest analyst.

As a part of ESPN, she mainly handles coverage for the NFL, as well as College Football games, mainly featuring teams from the New England area – she already had a proven track record in covering those teams during a brief stint with FSN New England.
According to various sources, Wendi was married to Ben Cherington, a former general manager of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, and the couple lived in the Boston area. They met while at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where they began their relationship. Ben is currently the vice president of baseball operations for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB). Their separation and divorce by 2010 was mainly kept under wraps, and only later confirmed during an interview. Ben later married Tyler Tumminia while Wendi would go on to marry Joe Ritchie; very little information is available about their relationship or the details of Joe’s life. The details of her second marriage actually came as a surprise as before it was revealed publicly, she started posting about a husband, even though most people actually knew her as a divorcee. She mentioned through social media that her husband also shares the same passion for football as her.
