Who is Becki Newton?

Early life, family, and education

Born Rebecca Sara Newton under the zodiac sign of Cancer on 4 July 1978, in New Haven, Connecticut USA, she holds American nationality and comes from a family of very mixed Scottish, English, Norwegian, French and Czech descent.

Raised by her parents, Thomas and Jennifer Newton (nee Chase), alongside her brother, Matt, also an actor, and filmmaker, when it comes to Becki’s educational background, she attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 1996, enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in European History, in 2000. Following her college graduation, Becki moved to New York City, to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a famous actress.

Roles in series

After numerous appearances in national commercials, Becki made her first TV series appearance as Young Melanie Whitley in an episode of the series “Cold Case” in 2003. She followed with her guest role as Mindy in two episodes of “American Dreams” in 2004, and in the following year was seen in an episode of “Charmed”.

Becki’s first and to date most notable role came in 2006, when she landed the role of Amanda Tanen in the comedy-drama “Ugly Betty”, playing a beautiful but vain receptionist, whose biological mother was Fey Sommers, her boss at MODE. The show aired until 2010, and Becki appeared in all 85 episodes. The series, also starring America Ferrera, Tony Plana, and Eric Mabius, had 122 award nominations and 52 wins, including three Primetime Emmys.

When it comes to Becki’s performance in the show, she won the Glamour Award for Comedy Actress of the Year, and with the rest of the crew, she shares two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, in 2007 and ’08.

Concurrently, Becki played the same role in the spin-off “Mode After Hours”, starring opposite Michael Urie, and although the show was canceled after its first season (2008-2009), it was well-rated by the audience (8.1/10), and Becki and Michael were nominated for the Webby Award for Best Performance – Webisodes.

Becki was next seen starring as Annie Matopoluos in the romantic comedy-drama “Love Bites”, which followed the story of all the crazy things that love makes us do, from pretending to be a virgin to joining the mile-high club just to get a guy interested. The show, also starring Greg Grunberg and Constance Zimmer, was well-rated by the audience (7.4/10).

During 2012 and 2013, Becki had the recurring role as Quinn in the hit sitcom “How I Met Your Mother”, followed by her role as Chloe Goodwin in “The Goodwin Games”, later in 2013; the plot of the show revolved around three estranged siblings who were reunited during their father’s burial. His final will specifies that they must connect as a family through the games developed by their late father, or they will lose the $23 million he left them.

Becki was next seen starring in the 2015 TV mini-series “Weird Loners”, and then from 2018 through 2019, she was seen in less than 10 episodes of the show “Tell Me a Story”. Concurrently, she played Jackie in the comedy “Divorce”.

Most recently, she was cast to play Lorna in the series “The Lincoln Lawyer”,  starring opposite Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Angus Sampson in this mystery crime-drama which began airing in 2022 – its second season starts on 3 August 2023.

Roles in movies

Becki made her big-screen debut playing Rebecca in the 2004 drama “P. S.”, starring Topher Grace and Laura Linney. Three years later, she landed the role of Jennifer in the musical drama “August Rush”, the story of an orphan boy, a musical prodigy, who seeks to find his biological parents, starring Freddie Highmore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The movie had 11 award nominations, including one for the Oscar – Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song for the song “Raise It Up”, and four wins.

In the following years, Becki was seen in a few TV movies which didn’t achieve much success, while most recently, she played Andrea in the 2019 comedy “Otherhood”, written and directed by Cindy Chupack.

Did she really find love in a subway station?

The answer is ‘yes’ – Becki met her future husband in a New York subway station back in the early 2000s. Her husband is also an actor; Chris Diamantpoulos is perhaps known best for his role as Russ Hanneman in the comedy series “Silicon Valley”. Chris hails from Toronto, Ontario Canada, and is of Greek descent.

The couple haven’t shared all the details about their first encounter, since both of them prefer to keep their personal matters secret. However, what we do know is that they exchanged their wedding vows in 2005. Their first child, a son was born in November 2010, while their second child, a daughter, was born in 2014. The family welcomed their fifth member in 2020 when Becki gave birth to their second daughter. In July 2022, Becki confirmed that they’re expecting their fourth child.

Becki’s age is 45. Her trademarks are her blonde hair and petite figure, as she stands at a height of 5ft 3ins (1.6m) and weighs around 115lbs (52kgs), with vital statistics of 34-25-35.
