Early life and education

Laura hasn’t shared much about her childhood with the public, as she prefers to keep these things to herself – she is said to have spent her entire childhood in Kansas City with her parents and siblings, but who she doesn’t talk about. She has been passionate about journalism since a very young age, and after she matriculated from a local high school, enrolled at the University of Kansas and graduated four years later with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism.

Career

As soon as she graduated from college, Laura started working for the local sports channel in Chicago, while she gained recognition when she became part of the Chattanooga TN. She worked as their anchor and reporter of the sports news, and due to her excellent skills she won the Chicago Midwest Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievements.

Laura felt her dream of becoming a successful reporter completely came true once she started working for CNN as their host and reporter in 1997 – she worked every day on both CNN and CNNSI shows including “CNN Early Edition”, “Page One”, “NBA Today”, and “CNN Morning News” – she left the network in 2002.

She joined the FOX Sports Network in 2002, and worked as their host, anchor, and a reporter – she covered numerous important events such as ten Super Bowls, two Olympic Games, several NBA Finals, Baseball World Series and All-Star games. At the same time, in 2002 and 2003, she worked for TNT/TBS Sports as their reporter during the National Basketball Association (NBA) Playoffs, while she was also a host of Atlanta Braves (baseball) and Atlanta Thrashers (ice hockey) coverage.

She is currently working as a seasoned reporter for FOX as she covers NFL  for them together with  announcer Chris Myers and the analyst Daryl Johnston while she is also the feature reporter of the “FOX NFL SUNDAY” and “FOX NFL KICKOFF” shows. Because she always wanted to make her own content, she launched LO Productions which produced 30-minute long series focused on people from the NFL and which aired on FSN. She was quite busy while the show was active as she worked as the show’s Executive Producer, booking every guest and writing every episode herself.

Personal life

Laura is a bit secretive when it comes to her personal life, she is one of those people who like to keep their professional and personal lives separated. She was said to be a married woman since 1996 while her other half was said to be a musician, but his identity was not known until Laura posted a picture with him on her Instagram account – his name is Mikel Hagerty and he is a movie producer. On the other hand, judging by another Instagram post, it seems that the couple went out on their first date six years ago and have therefore exchanged their vows sometime between 2013 and 2019 and not in 1996 as is believed by most people. Although the couple is said to not have any kids of their own, they have two dogs named Booyah and Bandit who they consider as part of the family.

Other interests

Laura is a published writer as well – her book “Mommy Has Cancer” was published in 2002, written to honor her mother who died from cancer. Laura is also passionate about exercising and visits the gym often. She works as a mentor of young women who are new in the broadcasting industry – she puts on seminars throughout the country with the help of the GALvanize company of which she is the owner. She helps professional NFL players and coaches prepare for their upcoming interviews, and gives them training related to speaking with the media.

She is a member of the Board of Trustees at the University of Kansas’ William Allen White Journalism School, and of the advisory board at the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission.

Laura saw an opportunity, and launched her own company called GALvanize – its aim is to work with NFL rookies, pro coaches, USA Women’s hockey team who managed to win the world gold medal nine times, WNBA squads and other people who want to develop their skills of delivering a powerful message through the media.
