Of Irish ancestry, Charlie is the son of Barbara and Charles McDermott, and he grew-up in his hometown with his sisters Erin and Grace McDermott. His parents were owners of health clubs, which made Charlie’s growing up rather easy in a financial way. He went to Salesianum High School in Wilmington, Delaware, but only briefly as he left the school and began studies at a cyber school, Pa Leadership Charter School or (PALCS). He moved to Los Angeles when he was only 16 years old, in order to focus entirely on an acting career.

Rise to Prominence
Charlie was pushing forward and in 2009 his hard work finally paid off when he was chosen for the part of Axl Heck in the sitcom “The Middle”, co-starring Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn. The series premiered on the 30th September 2009, and aired 215 episodes until its end on the 22nd May 2018. When asked about the end of the series, Charlie stated that he only hoped that he would find new roles that would grow close to his heart as Axl Heck did. The whole series and himself failed to take home prestigious awards, but he received praise from the critics for his work, and was nominated jointly for the Young Artist Award in the category for the Outstanding Young Ensemble in a TV Series, alongside his co-stars Eden Sher and Atticus Shaffer. While on the show, Charlie secured other notable roles, in comedy films such as Chaz in the film “Hot Tub Machine” (2010), with John Cusack, Rob Corddry and Craig Robinson in the lead roles, while he also starred in the crime-drama film “Bond of Silence”, with Kim Raver and Greg Grunberg. After that, he became more focused on the TV series, but returned to the big screen in 2015 with the part of Henry in the comedy film “ImagiGary”. Most recently he started working on the new TV series “Unbelievable”, scheduled for a premiere in 2019.
