The daughter of Carolyn and Richard Von Seelen, Lara grew up in her hometown, which is a suburb of New York City. She matriculated from Garden City High School in 1987, after which she enrolled at Pennsylvania State on an athletic scholarship, competing in springboard and platform diving. She was a nationally ranked competitive diver, and in 1991 earned All American Athlete honors. She finished her studies with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Career Beginnings
After graduation, Lara joined the NBC page program, volunteering to help other reporters while gaining experience. After a while, she became a part of WDEF-TV located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, an affiliate of CBS, where she worked alone in her division, serving as reporter, producer, cameraman, editor, and news-van driver. Just a year later, she joined News 12 Long Island, and after receiving massive attention for her work for the News 12 Long Island, Lara was recruited by WABC-TV. In 1996, she was given the anchor spot for the 3 AM newscast, and she was the one who covered the TWA Flight 800 crash for the station, which turned out to be her big break.
Rise to Fame
Thanks to her success at WABC-TV, Lara was brought to ABC as a national correspondent, and progressed to the role of a co-anchor, making her debut in 2002. Aside from ABC, Lara has also worked for several other TV stations, including CBS, PBS, HGTV, and the Great American Country channel. She has featured in such shows as “The Insider” (2006-2010), “Good Afternoon America” (2012), “Rachel Ray” (2006-2015), and “The View” (2013-2015), while from 2016 until 2017 she was hostess of the show “Farmer’s Market Flip”, of which she is also a producer..
