Born Alexandra Lecciones Doig on the 8th June 1973, in Toronto, Ontario Canada, she is the daughter of David W. Doig and Gloria B. Lecciones. Her mother worked as a nurse, and is from Philippines, while her father was working as a petroleum executive officer, and is of Scottish and Irish ancestry. While growing up, Lexa was a part of a rhythmic gymnastics team, and as she got older she developed an interest in acting, with a particular influence on her being a production of “Porgy and Bess”, which she saw when she was nine years old.
For her secondary education, Lexa attended Don Mills Collegiate Institute, and while there became a part of the vocational modeling program. At just 16 years old, Lexa was scouted by talent agents, and offered representation by one of them; in no time, she already had modeling gigs booked. Now a professional model, Lexa had her start in the entertainment world, and decided to quit high school and focus on acting.
Career Beginnings
Her first on-screen appearance was as the host of the show “Video & Arcade Top 10” in 1991, and then in 1993 made her acting debut, in a minor role in the TV series “The Hidden Room”. The following year, she appeared in the television films “TekWar” and “TekWar: TekLords”, which led to the TV series “TekWar” (1994-1996).
She was slowly becoming more popular, and in 1996 started giving voice to Dale Arden in the animated action-adventure series “Flash Gordon” (1996-1997). Before the decade ended, she was Tina Backus in the TV series “CI5: The New Professionals”, and M.J. Sullivan in the TV series “Traders” (1999-2000).
Rise to Prominence
With the start of the new millennium, Lexa secured one of the most prominent roles in her career, as Andromeda Ascendant in the TV series “Andromeda” – she featured in all 110 episodes of the award-winning series, which made her quite popular.
The series lasted until 2005, but during this time, Lexa worked on several other projects too, including the lead role in the horror film “Jason X” in 2001. Following the end of “Andromeda”, she secured the part of Dr. Carolyn Lam in the TV series “Stargate SG-1” (2005-2007), then in 2007 starred in the television fantasy drama film “Second Sight”, and continued with television films such as “Fireball” (2009). In 2012 she joined the cast of the sci-fi action-thriller series “Continuum”, and in two years appeared in more than 30 episodes of the award-winning series.
In 2015 she signed an exclusive deal with the Hallmark Channel to portray Sally Allison in the television mystery thriller films “Aurora Teagarden Mystery”, and has subsequently featured in 11 films, with the latest one being “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: A Very Foul Play”, released in mid-2019. In addition, Lexa played Deann Anderson in the TV drama series “The Arrangement” (2017-2018), while she was also cast as Talia al Ghul in the TV series “Arrow” (2017-2018).
