Melissa Stark was born on the 11th November 1973, in Baltimore, Maryland USA, the daughter of Walter Stark, an eye-surgeon who works at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, at the world-famous Wilmer Eye Clinic in Baltimore, Maryland; there is no detailed information about her mother. She went to Roland Park Country School in Baltimore, which is a prestigious all-girls college preparatory school. Following her matriculation, Melissa enrolled at the University of Virginia, from which she obtained a degree in Foreign Affairs and Spanish language.

Career Beginnings

Melissa started her career as an intern for WMAR-TV in her native Baltimore, working on the assignment desk, where she remained from 1991 until 1993. After her stint ended, she joined CBS and started by serving as a news intern for the “CBS Evening News with Dan Rather”, from 1993 until 1994. She was in charge of writing scripts and was also focused on collecting information on investigative pieces for health correspondent at the time, Dr. Bob Arnot. Her next stop was Virginia Sports Marketing in Charlottesville, for the University of Virginia’s Coach’s TV Show, available on the air in any major markets across Virginia.

Her hard work was recognized by ESPN, and she joined the station in 1996. Until 2004 she was a reporter for “SportsCenter”, and also served as a contributor for the show “Sunday NFL Countdown”, then “Outside the Lines”, and others. During her time with ESPN, Melissa reported from NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals, World Series, and Final Four for “SportsCenter”, while she also covered stories from Major League Baseball (MLB), National Hockey League (NHL), and other sports.

Rise to Prominence

Gradually, Melissa was becoming more popular, and it was in 2000 that she joined ABC Sports too, and became the lead sideline reporter for the “Monday Night Football” show. She served for three-seasons of NFL, including covering Super Bowl XXXVII. During her work for ABC Sports, she also reported on other sports, including figure skating. After ABC she became a part of NBC News as a National Correspondent in July 2003, and was also given the task of serving as an anchor of MSNBC Live. The following year, she made her first contribution to NBC Sports, doing reports and interviews for the network’s coverage of the horse racing Triple Crown and several other racing events.
