She attended West Jordan High School which is located near Salt Lake City, Utah. It has over 1,700 students and is known for its music program, having the largest choir program in the state. During her time there, she was cast in the first “High School Musical” film.

“High School Musical” was released in 2006, and is a modern take on “Romeo & Juliet”. The story features two high school juniors from rival cliques, who together try out for a lead part in their high school musical. This in turn leads to a division among school students, with several people wanting to stop them from fulfilling their roles in the musical. The film proved highly successful, and became the most commercially successful Disney Channel Original Movie ever produced. The success of the original film would create a series of sequels.
Rulin on the other hand continued her studies, moving to Paris to study for a degree in economics. During that time, she was invited to the sequel “High School Musical 2” which managed to surpass its predecessor, breaking numerous records, including for the most commercially successful set by the original. She also reprised her role in the third film, which was no released theatrically, but grossed over $252 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing film of the franchise.

After Olesya’s run with the “High School Musical” franchise, she continued her career by appearing in several other Disney Channel Original movies such as “Halloweentown High”, and “Hounded”. She then co-starred in the film entitled “Major Movie Star”, also known as “Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous”, alongside Jessica Simpson, which follows the story of an actress who enlists into the US Army. In 2009, Olesya was then cast in the drama film “Flying By” alongside Billy Ray Cyrus and Heather Locklear; the film is known to be the final film of actress Patricia Neal.
In 2010, she starred in another film called “Expecting Mary”, which also starred Elliot Gould and Linda Gray, and was premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Three years later, she worked on “Family Weekend” alongside Kristin Chenoweth, and in 2014 was then cast in the PlayStation Network series entitled “Powers”, playing the character Calista Sector. It is an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name published by the Marvel Comics imprint, Icon Comics; it was cancelled after its first season.
