Early life and education

Ray’s parents immigrated from Puerto Rico to the US mainland before he was born – he spent most of his childhood in Fresh Meadows, but doesn’t usually talk about his parents as he appreciates their privacy, and therefore nothing is known about them. Ray grew up playing video games – he was only two when he played his first game, and by the time he turned five he already had problems with his eyesight, and had to start wearing glasses.

After he matriculated from a local high school, Ray enrolled at Queens College, but dropped out after a year. His parents weren’t very happy that their son was a dropout, and their dissatisfaction made him search for a job to contribute to the family in some way.

Ray’s first jobs and his career in gaming

So Ray found a job in one of the bars in New York and worked as a waiter , but quit after a while and started working for the American Freight Company, United Parcel Service (UPS) as a delivery truck driver. He hated the job, and later stated that he wouldn’t recommend it to anyone regardless of how desperately they might need the money.

Ray was living in New York when he started contributing to Rooster Teeth in their Achievement Hunter division, before he moved to Austin Texas in April 2012, and officially became part of the team. His main job was to create achievement guide videos – in most of the games you play, you will have an ‘achievement’ menu in which you will have the names of many achievements and descriptions of what to do to get them. Most of the people can’t finish all of them on their own, and they therefore search the guide videos on the Internet – those are the ones which Ray creates. He was in charge of making videos for the hardest achievements which nobody from the Rooster Teeth was able to do – he was also simultaneously making videos for the Internet Box Podcast and the Rooster Teeth, until 3 March 2014.

Ray appeared at his first Comic Con in New York in October 2012, with his friends from the Rooster Teeth Matt Hullum, Monty Oum and Kathleen Zuelch – he was representing the team as he was talking to the audience and answering their questions, while he is also said to have been performing tricks to entertain them.

Ray has a higher gamescore than any other person in the history of the Rooster Teeth, as he managed to acquire over one million while playing “Shantae Genie Hero”. He remained as part of the Rooster Teeth until 2015, when he left because he wanted to focus on his solo career, but he is still voicing his X-Ray character in Rooster Teeth’s “X-Ray and Vav” web series, and is still attending their conventions.

Rooster Teeth Productions LLC is an entertainment company which is focused on playing video games, uploading those videos on YouTube, and producing their own web series – its headquarters are located in Austin in Texas and it is owned by Ellation which is a division of Otter Media, which is part of the Warner Media working under Warner Bros.

Rooster Teeth was created in 2003 by Burnie Burns, Geoff Ramsey, Matt Hullum, Gus Sorola, Jason Saldana, and Joel Heyman – their first web series was entitled “Red vs. Blue” which debuted in April 2003 and it’s still airing making it the longest web series to ever run on the Internet. The team saw an opportunity in the popularity of the show and created a “sponsorships” option – if you pay a monthly subscription, you are able to gain early access to their content as discounts on their merchandise which they sell online.

After the success of the “Red vs. Blue”, they began making short movies, series, “Let’s Play” videos, and animated productions such as “X-Ray and Vav” which Ray is part of – they also made a full-length science fiction comedy movie entitled “Lazer Team” which received positive critiques.

Rooster Teeth’s YouTube channel currently has over 9.6 million subscribers, while they have a total of over 45 million subscribers on all of their channels combined.

Personal life and relationships

Ray is quite a secretive person when it comes to his personal life and his love affairs – it is only known that he started dating Tina Dayton in 2014. Tina is a Twitch star and a streamer – the two share the same passion towards gaming which helped them fall for each other. Judging by their Instagram accounts, the two are still dating and even though they’ve been together for around five years, it doesn’t seem as they’re planning to exchange their wedding vows or have kids anytime soon.
