Early life and education

Ryan spent his childhood in Georgia with his family, which he rarely talks about. He has been playing games since a very early age, and had fallen in love with gaming as soon as he tried it for the first time. He was working as a model during the years which he spent at high school, and his hair was longer and he was skinnier during that period. After he matriculated, Ryan enrolled at Georgia Southern University, then switched to Georgia Tech University from which he received his Bachelor’s degree – he continued his education in England and apparently graduated with a degree in Computer Science, Web Design and Computer Animation.

Career

Ryan first worked a job of a pool cleaner to make enough money to support himself – while he was checking the Craigslist for another job, he saw an opening with Rooster Teeth, and decided to give it a shot. He won the job, moved to Austin in Texas, and has been part of the team ever since, eventually gaining recognition in February 2014 when he also got the nickname “Mad King”.

He worked in the most popular sector of Rooster Teeth, which is the Achievement Hunter – each game has its own achievements which you get if you do what is required of you for that particular task. Most people can’t finish all the achievements on their own as these can sometimes be very hard, so Achievement Hunters make guide videos about finishing a particular achievement. Ryan was also in charge of maintaining Rooster Teeth’s website, and their “Game Fails” channel on YouTube – he later became the technical director and animator of their “Red vs. Blue” season 10 web series, which at that point was already very popular.

Ryan has appeared in many of Rooster Teeth’s live action productions, including “Immersion”, “Million Dollars, But..”, “Ten and Eleven Little Roosters”, and several others. He’s voiced numerous characters in their animated short videos, including his own character in the “X-Ray and Vav” web series, and John Elizabeth Andersmith in “Red vs. Blue”.

In 2011, Ryan became an editor, crew member and a co-host of Achievement Hunter – he became the main host in 2012 and joined the main crew of Rooster Teeth. He has a personal Twitch account called “SortaMaliciousGaming” on which he has gathered over 1.7 million views on the 15 videos which he’s uploaded. Rooster Teeth Productions LLC is an entertainment company focused on playing video games, uploading those videos onto YouTube, and producing their own web series – its headquarters are located in Austin, Texas and it’s owned by Ellation which is a division of Otter Media, part of Warner Media working under Warner Bros.

Personal life and marriage

Ryan doesn’t often talk about his personal life, but he doesn’t mind sharing some details with his fans now and then – he married his other half Dr. Laurie Higginbotham in 2007 and the two have two kids together named Eli who was born in 2011, and Olivia who was born in October 2013. Laurie is a veterinarian and she and Ryan have several dogs and cats who live with them.

Not much is known about Ryan’s wife Laurie. except for details about her professional career – Laurie is a 2007 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She finished her internship at the Blue Pearl (formerly called Florida Veterinary Specialists) in 2008 and then moved to live in Texas – she worked in general practice, as well as handling emergency cases, until she joined the team of the Terrell Veterinary Clinic in 2015.

She and Ryan have three dogs named Emma, Maya, and Quigley, and two cats called Smudge and Violet – Laurie enjoys spending her time with her husband and their kids; she loves horseback riding, and is a big fan of the Duke Blue Devils basketball team.
