Who is his father Dr. Dre?

Andre Romelle Young, aka Dr. Dre, was born in Compton, California USA on 18 February 1965 – his zodiac sign is Aquarius, and he holds American nationality. He’s perhaps known best for having co-founded the American record label Death Row Records, while he had also served as its president.

Dr. Dre was raised in Compton by his mother Verna Young and father Theodore; his parents split in 1968 and divorced four years later, while his mother then married Curtis Crayon and gave birth to Dr. Dre’s half-sister Shameka, and half-brothers Tyree and Jerome, both of whom have passed away. He studied at Vanguard Junior High School but was transferred to Roosevelt Junior High School because of gang violence; his mother married for the third time when he was around 16 years old, and gave birth to four more half-siblings.

He switched schools once again, and eventually matriculated from Fremont High School, Los Angeles in 1983.

He launched his career by becoming a DJ at the club Eve’s After Dark, and initially performed under the moniker Dr. J; not long after this, he chose Dr. Dre as his professional name, and referred to himself as ‘Master of Mixology’. He went on to join the electro group World Class Wreckin’ Cru, and they were very popular in the ‘80s.

It was in 1992 that Dr. Dre founded Death Row Records, together with American music executive Marion Hugh ‘Suge’ Knight Jr., and Dr. Dre then release his debut album, “The Chronic” on 15 December 1992; it was certified platinum thrice, and won him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.

Although mostly focused on working on his own music, Dr. Dre also produced other rapper’s albums, including “Doggystyle” by Snoop Dogg, which topped the Billboard 200 Chart, becoming the first debut album to succeed at that. The late American rapper and actor 2Pac was signed to Death Row Records in 1995, and the following year saw Dr. Dre leave Death Row, because he was concerned about Suge Knight’s illegal activities.

He formed Aftermath Entertainment in the second half of 1996, and released his album “Dr. Dre Presents: The Aftermath” on 26 November of the same year. His new record label became successful only in 1998, after it had signed Eminem, and Dr. Dre produced three songs on Eminem’s 1999 debut album “The Slim Shady LP”, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

Dr. Dre released his second album – “2001” – on 16 November 1999, but has since been focused mostly on producing other artists’ songs and albums. He continued collaborating with Eminem, and in 2003, he helped produce 50 Cent’s debut album “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”.

He continued working until 14 November 2011, when he revealed that he was planning to take a break, wanting to spend more time with his family; it was then announced in 2014 that Dr. Dre was working on his third album “Detox”, which was later renamed to “Compton” and released on 7 August 2015.
