Early life and education
Although born in Mexico, Vera grew up in Los Angeles in Southern California as her parents moved there when she was three years old – she rarely mentions her family because she prefers to keep her personal matters to herself. She is an only child, and has once stated how her father and mother did everything they could so that she could lead a luxurious life.
After matriculating from Bolsa Grande High School, she enrolled at the California State University, Long Beach and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in religious studies while she has also attended Santa Ana Community College.
Career in the broadcasting industry
Even though Vera’s plan was to work in the medical field, that later changed as she fell in love with journalism and broadcasting after she attended a journalism course, where she met Charles ‘Bud’ Little who was already part of the industry. She decided to dedicate her time to journalism, and continued studying under the mentorship of Professor Terry Bales.
Vera began working as an intern for the KIK-FM radio station, after which she landed her first job for Shadow Broadcasting. She did not stay there for long, as she moved to KFWB-AM station and then to KNX-AM which is where she improved her skills, working for them as their airborne traffic reporter.
She appeared on TV as a meteorologist for the first time while she was working for the KABC-TV station – she moved from there to KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, and at the same time studied meteorology at the Mississippi State University, receiving her certificate in August 2009.
Since the start of her career to this day, Vera has worked for numerous TV stations including ABC, NBC, CNN, Univision, and Telemundo. She has been part of the KTLA station since January 2010, and currently works as their senior meteorologist – she can be seen at 6 a.m., 6:30 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m. During her career, Vera has won two Emmy, three Golden Mike, and three Golden Pylon Awards.
Besides being a meteorologist, Vera also owns a restaurant called Hermosa Beach Fish Shop – she is quite active in the South Bay community as she’s part of the Redondo Beach Rotary and Hermosa Beach Women’s Club. She’s a member of the Chambers of Commerce in both Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach.
Personal life and marriage
Vera is quite secretive when it comes to her personal life as she prefers to separate her business and personal matters. She is married to Brian Herlihy – Brian is a businessman who owns the Hermosa Beach Fish Shop together with her. Judging by the pictures they upload on their Instagram accounts, the couple seems to be leading a happy life together.
Likes and hobbies
Vera has been interested in music since an early age and has learned to play the piano. She is very fond of sports and occasionally plays basketball – she is very passionate about movies and loves spending her free time eating popcorns and watching a good comedy. Vera is a big fan of travelling. but due to her highly demanding job, she rarely travels nowadays – she often uses her free time to exercise, while she also meditates and does yoga.
KTLA virtual channel 5 is a CW-affiliated TV station that is licensed to Los Angeles in California – the station belongs to Tribune Broadcasting which is part of the Tribune Media Company. Its studios are located in the Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood while its transmitter can be found on top of the Mount Wilson. The station is available in North America by using the DirecTV and Dish Network, and on specific cable providers in several cities in the southwestern US and Canada.
KTLA was founded in September 1947 and is therefore the first commercially licensed TV station in the western part of the US while it aired its first show on 22 January 1947 – its slogans are “L.A.’s Very Own” and “L.A.’s Hometown Station”.
