She became a part of the team which covered the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting which occurred in 2012, the deadliest mass shooting at a grade school in US history, as 20 children and six adult staff members were fatally shot before the shooter committed suicide. Her work with her team helped them gain a George Foster Peabody Award, and she was one of the network’s six staff members to accept the award on behalf of the station, given to the most invigorating, powerful, and enlightening media stories presented through various platforms.

Liz has also did covered various weather-related emergencies, including Hurricane Irene, a destructive tropical cyclone that caused at least 49 deaths with damage estimated at $13.5 billion which affected Canada to the Caribbean.
