Who is Sam Jaeger?

American actor and screenwriter Samuel Heath Jaeger was born under the zodiac sign Aquarius on 29 January 1977, in Toledo, Ohio USA. He has 57 acting credits, but is perhaps still known best for playing Nick Fisher in the critically acclaimed 2006 crime thriller movie “Lucky Number Slevin”, which starred Ben Kingsley, Morgan Freeman and Josh Hartnett, and was directed by Paul McGuigan. It follows Slevin who’s become a case of mistaken identity and must now protect himself from two rival crime bosses; the movie won five of its nine award nominations.

Education and early life

Sam was raised alongside his three older siblings in Toledo, by their father Charles Jaeger and mother LeAnne (nee Graening); not many other details have been shared about Sam’s family because he respects their privacy.

He studied at Perrysburg High School and during his four years there appeared in numerous plays; some of Sam’s other interests were playing soccer, running track, and dancing. He matriculated in 1995, and then enrolled at Otterbein College, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1999.

He then spent some time working in a casting office in New York City, prior to deciding to focus solely on acting.

Sam’s debut film role was playing Waiter in the 1999 musical “Double Platinum”, and some of his following roles were in the critically acclaimed 2001 action thriller “Behind Enemy Lines”, the evergreen 2002 war drama “Hart’s War” and 2002 crime action “Blood Work”.

In 2004, he portrayed Jerry’s Best Friend in the comedy “Sexual Life”, which starred Annie Heller and Azura Skye, and was written and directed by Ken Kwapis. It follows a group of adults who are unfaithful to their partners, and the movie won a 2005 Phoenix Film Festival Copper Wing Award for Best Director. Some of Sam other notable performances in the 2000s were in the 2004 biographical crime drama “The Riverman”, the 2008 comedy “Henry Poole Is Here”, and the 2009 thriller “Within”.

In 2011, he wrote, directed and starred as Thom in the romantic comedy “Take Me Home”, which also starred his wife Amber Jaeger and Victor Garber, and follows Thom who’s begun working as an illegal taxi driver in New York City; the movie won four awards.

The year 2014 saw Sam play Navy Seal Lieutenant Martin in the critically acclaimed biographical action movie “American Sniper”, which starred Sienna Miller and Bradley Cooper, and which Clint Eastwood directed. It follows the life of Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle and the movie won 24 of its 67 award nominations, including an Oscar win for Best Achievement in Sound Editing.

Some of Sam’s most recent movie roles have been in the 2019 action adventure comedy “Shazam!”, the 2020 science fiction horror comedy “Asylum: Twisted Horror and Fantasy Tales” and the 2021 biographical romantic drama “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”.

Roles in TV series

Sam’s debut TV series role was playing Bill Conway in the 1999 episode “Admissions” of the crime mystery “Law & Order”, and the following year saw him appear in an episode of two of the drama “The West Wing”, the comedy “That’s Life” and the romantic drama “ER”.

In 2002, he played Kevin O’Neil in all nine episodes of the drama “Girls Club”, which starred Chyler Leigh, Kathleen Robertson and Gretchen Mol, and was created by David E. Kelley; it follows the lives of three ambitious but naïve women who are working for a law firm in San Francisco, California. Some of Sam’s other notable performances in the 2000s were in the drama “Commander in Chief”, the romantic comedy “Notes from the Underbelly” and the fantasy comedy “Eli Stone”.

From 2010 through 2015, he starred as Joel Graham in all 103 episodes of the critically acclaimed comedy “Parenthood”, which also starred Dax Shepard and Peter Krause, and was created by Jason Katims. It follows the lives of members of the Braverman family, and the series won 15 of the 56 awards for which it was nominated.

Some of Sam’s most recent roles in TV series have been portraying Tino McCutheon in five episodes of the 2020 comedy “The Politician”, Peter in all eight episodes of the 2022 mystery horror mini-series “Devil in Ohio” and Mark Tuello in 19 episodes of the science fiction thriller “The Handmaid’s Tale” from 2018 through 2022.

Other credits

Sam received special thanks for the 2007 short comedy movie “About 10” and the 2011 romantic comedy film “Take Me Home”.

Sam rarely speaks about his love life in public, but we know that he’s a married man, has three children and a stepdaughter. He met American actress Amber Marie Mellott while they were both attending Otterbein College; she has 14 acting credits and is perhaps known best for portraying Sara Ballard in the 2011 mystery movie “Solitary”. Amber took a break from acting in 2013 to focus on raising her and Sam’s children, and she’s since appeared in only the 2019 science fiction movie “After We Leave”.

Sam and Amber exchanged vows in a small and private ceremony on 25 August 2007 and she gave birth to their son August in 2010, while their second boy Redford was born in 2014; Amber gave birth to their third boy Calvin Ernest Jaeger on 26 June 2016. Sam also has a stepdaughter Aubrey, to whom Amber gave birth in 1995.

There are no other women whom Sam’s perhaps been with, that we know about; he’s married to Amber Marie Mellott as of September 2023, and they have three sons together.
