David Iacono

The model and actor David Iacono, who is probably best-known for playing Cam Cameron in “The Summer I Turned Pretty” (“TSITP”), was born on 20th June 2002, in Brooklyn, New York City, USA, of Puerto Rican and Italian descent. David matriculated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music & Art and Performing Arts at 18 years old, with one of his classmates just happening to be his future “TSITP” co-star Lola Tung.

In a 2020 interview, David mentioned wanting to study filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. For now, however, he appears to have put his studies on the backburner while he gains more experience in the entertainment industry.

Career

David’s career began doing commercial work for magazines when he was a young child. Aged six, he had his first credited acting role playing Jake in the crime horror film “Choose”, which premiered years later at the 2011 Halloween All-Nighter FrightFest film festival.

Three years later, David portrayed Jeremiah in the comedy-drama “St. Vincent”, which was a box office success, making more than four times its $13 million budget. The star-studded cast included the likes of Melissa McCarthy and Bill Murray, and won an award at the Heartland Film Festival, while also being nominated at the Golden Globes and at other prestigious ceremonies.

Thanks to his stellar performance in “St. Vincent”, David soon made his TV debut with a minor role in an episode of “The Slap”. The next year, he was cast as Roberto in the miniseries “Show Me a Hero”, based on Lisa Belkin’s non-fiction book of the same title. More guest roles followed in “What Would You Do?”, “The Blacklist: Redemption”, and “NCIS: New Orleans”, as well as appearances in the short indie movie “The Pastor”, and the psychological thriller “Joker”.

David’s career reached a turning point in 2020, when he had his first recurring TV roles, depicting Bo Orlov in “Grand Army”, and Eli Briscoe in “The Flight Attendant”. He also played Faust Aquino in seasons two and three of the crime drama “City on a Hill”.

In July 2021, David announced that he had been cast in the coming-of-age romance series “The Summer I Turned Pretty”. The Amazon Prime Video show was a roaring success, and features a host of young rising stars such as Sean Kaufman and Jackie Chung, while mixing in more seasoned actors including Rachel Blanchard and Tom Everett Scott.

Since then, David has starred in the 2023 thriller “Cinnamon”, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival and was released on streaming platform Tubi shortly afterwards. Despite positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie came and went without much fanfare, perhaps due to a low marketing budget.

For the time being, David has his work cut out with upcoming roles in the Amazon Prime series “Hot Pink”, Netflix series “Dead Boy Detectives”, and the movie “Hungry”. “Dead Boy Detectives” is based on the DC Comics characters of the same name, and has been in the works since late 2021, although no release date has been confirmed just yet.

Personal Life

After his breakout role in season one of “TSITP”, David gained thousands of social media followers and simultaneously became more conscious about the content he was putting out. In a 2023 interview with Euphoria magazine, the actor shared: ‘I think it can be sometimes easy to get lost in this personality that you may be creating for yourself on the internet’, which explains why he posts sparingly on Instagram.

Most of David’s Instagram posts serve the purpose of promoting his new and upcoming projects, so there’s very little we can tell you about his personal life. Although the actor was previously rumored to be dating his co-star Lola, this is perhaps wishful thinking from fans who want to see them together, as their “TSITP” characters embarked on a short-lived fling in season one of the show, but decided they were better off as friends.

In November 2022, David shared a sweet throwback photo of himself with older sister Kayla, who resides in New York City and loves travelling, fine dining, and fashion. As for David and Kayla’s parents, they prefer not to appear on their children’s social media.

Although David has given plenty of interviews in the last few months, he steers away from questions pertaining to dating. For now, we can assume that the actor is single or in a relationship that he prefers to keep to himself and his other half. The “Cinnamon” star is 5ft 11in (180cm).

Co-Stars

Of the “TSITP” cast, Lola, the show’s leading lady, is understandably receiving the biggest push, and has amassed almost four million followers as of October 2023. Raised in New York City, the striking actress – who is of Chinese, Swedish and Eastern European descent – graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia in 2020, alongside David and other classmates.

Months later, she began studying at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama with an acting major, but took her sophomore year off to film season one of “TSITP”. The thespian, who also sings and plays the guitar, presented the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, but has yet to embark on other projects outside of the Amazon Prime show.

Christopher Briney, who plays Lola’s love interest Conrad Fisher, was an unknown actor until 2021, when he was discovered by director Mary Harron and cast in the biographical film “Dalíland”. While filming in Liverpool, he did a chemistry read over Zoom for “TSITP”, having already sent in an audition tape.

The son of two actors who met in New York City, Christopher was born in March 1998, and completed a five-week intensive theater program at Wesleyan University when he was 17 years old. He began studying at Pace University in 2016, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree four years later. During his student days, he was an employee at Trader Joe’s.

Last but not least is Gavin Casalegno, who was born in September 1999, and began modelling at the tender age of four. In the mid-2000s, Gavin appeared in commercials for Papa John’s and Sony amongst other brands, managed by his mother, Allyson.

Although Gavin is one of the quieter “TSITP” cast members, he has been acting since 2010, with roles in “The Vampire Diaries”, “Noah”, and various direct-to-video films. His younger sister, Ashley, is also a model and actress who is presumably being managed by Allyson as well.
