Who is Kevin Durand?

Canadian actor Kevin Serge Durand was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, on 14 January 1974, making his zodiac sign Capricorn. He has 86 acting credits but is perhaps still known best for portraying Fred Dukes in the 2009 action science fiction movie “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, which starred Hugh Jackman and Live Schreiber, and was directed by Gavin Hood. It follows the early life of James Logan – aka Wolverine – and the film won three of its 24 award nominations.

Kevin’s currently shooting for two upcoming movies: “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and “Untitled Monster Thriller for Universal Pictures Project”.

Education and early life

Kevin was raised in Thunder Bay by his father Serge Durand and mother Reina (nee Perreault), however, he hasn’t shared many other details about his parents because he respects their privacy; it’s also believed that Kevin doesn’t have siblings, because he hasn’t spoken about having any.

He studied at St. Ignatius High School in Thunder Bay, and was into a couple of activities during his time there, as he enjoyed appearing in school plays, playing ice hockey, and taking dance lessons. Kevin matriculated in 1992, and then enrolled at college, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1996.

Roles in TV series

Kevin’s debut TV series role was playing John Greer in the 1997 episode “The Frankenstein of Sleep” of the crime drama “Exhibit A: Secrets of Forensic Science”, and he gained recognition in 2000 and 2001, when cast to voice Cliff in six episodes of the animated action “Jackie Chan Adventures”, which starred Jackie Chan and James Sie, and was created by Jeff Kline and Duane Capizzi. It follows Jackie Chan and his extended family as they’re fighting a criminal organization – the series was nominated for five awards.

Some of Kevin’s following roles were in the action adventure “Stargate SG-1”, the action mystery “Dark Angel”, and the mystery science fiction “Taken”. In 2004, he played the lead character Agent Jay Swopes in all 12 episodes of the crime thriller “Touching Evil”, which also starred Jeffrey Donovan and Vera Farmiga, and was created by Paul Abbott. It follows a detective who’s survived a gunshot wound to the head, and has now begun working for the FBI Organized and Serial Crime Unit.

What also marked the 2000s for Kevin was playing Martin Keamy in 11 episodes (2008-2010) of the evergreen adventure fantasy “Lost”, which starred Yunjin Kim, Josh Holloway and Jorge Garcia, and was created by Damon Lindelof. It follows the survivors of a plane crash who’ve found themselves trapped on a mysterious island inhabited by a supernatural entity, the series aired from 2004 through 2010 and won 113 of its 510 award nominations.

Some of Kevin’s following roles were in an episode of the animated comedy “Glenn Martin DDS” (voice role), the animated comedy “Family Guy” (voice role), and the crime comedy “Republic of Doyle”.

From 2014 through 2017, he starred as Vasiliy Fet in all 46 episodes of the fantasy horror “The Strain”, which also starred Corey Stoll and David Bradley, and was created by Guillermo del Toro. Kevin’s debut film role was playing Assassin in the 1999 action adventure comedy movie “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”, which starred Heather Graham and Mike Myers, and was directed by Jay Roach. It follows Austin Powers whose mojo has been stolen by Dr. Evil, and the film won 18 of its 50 award nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Make-up.

Some of Kevin’s following roles were in the 1999 sports comedy “Mystery, Alaska”, the 2002 action crime comedy “K-9: P. I.”, and the 2003 crime drama “Mob Princess”. What also marked the 2000s for Kevin was portraying Red in the 2007 action adventure comedy “Wild Hogs”, which starred John Travolta, Martin Lawrence and Tim Allen, and was directed by Walt Becker. It follows a group of biker wannabes who’ve run into the New Mexico gang Del Fuegos, and the movie won one of its five award nominations. The remainder of the decade saw Kevin appear in the 2008 mystery horror “The Echo”, the 2009 thriller “Convict” and the 2010 action fantasy horror “Legion”.

He portrayed Torval in the 2012 crime fantasy “Cosmopolis”, which starred Juliette Binoche and Robert Pattinson, and was written and directed by David Cronenberg. It follows the life of a 28 years old billionaire, and the film won three of its 17 award nominations. Kevin was then cast to appear in several critically acclaimed movies, including the 2012 action science fiction “Resident Evil: Retribution”, the 2013 biographical crime drama “Devil’s Knot”, and the 2014 fantasy mystery “Winter’s Tale”.

The year 2017 saw him play Lowell in the crime horror comedy “Tragedy Girls”, which starred Alexandra Shipp and Brianna Hildebrand, and was written and directed by Tyler MacIntyre. It follows two teenage girls who are obsessed with death, and the film won eight of its 12 award nominations. Some of Kevin’s most recent film roles have been in the 2018 action thriller “Take Point”, the 2019 action thriller “Primal”, and the 2021 action “Dangerous”.

Kevin’s received special thanks for the 2007 short movie “Smokin’ Aces: The Big Gun”, the 2016 thriller film “Mean Dreams”, and the 2022 sports comedy movie “Somewhere in Queens”.

Wife and kids

Kevin prefers to keep his love life away from media, but we still know that he’s today a married man, and a father of two.

He and Canadian actress Sandra Cho exchanged vows in a private ceremony on 1 October 2010, after they’d been together for a couple of years. Sandra has two acting credits, appearing in the 2009 comedy movie “Why Am I Doing This?”, and the 2010 comedy film “Cupid’s Arrow”, and she then focused on raising her and Kevin’s two daughters; not many details have been disclosed about their children, but it’s known that one of their daughters’ names is Amelie Moon Durand.

There are no other women whom Kevin’s perhaps been with, that we know about; he’s married to Sandra Cho as of August 2023, and they have two daughters together.
