At the age of three, her parents noticed that she had a talent for singing and as she grew older, she developed a passion for performing as well. She attended Otsego High School and during her time there joined the school’s cheerleading team. She won numerous talent contests in school, building her confidence in her voice, however, at the age of 15 she was diagnosed with dysgerminoma, a form of ovarian cancer which is a rare occurrence in someone young. She underwent surgery to remove a near five-pound tumor, followed by chemotherapy treatment; after several long stays in the hospital, she was declared under remission. As a survivor of the disease, she felt that she had the opportunity to spread cancer awareness, leading her to look for opportunities to show her talents as well.

People auditioning try to secure a spot at the live episodes, and so get a chance to win a large cash prize.
During her audition, she sang “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten and her performance moved judge Simon Cowell to press the Golden Buzzer, sending her straight to the quarterfinals; clips of her performing on the show attracted thousands of viewers, leading her to become an internet sensation. During the quarterfinals, she performed the song “Brave” by Sara Barielles, drawing a standing ovation, then in the semi-final competition which she sang the song “Human” by Christina Perri, but didn’t receive enough votes to be sent to the finals, so ending her run.
