Genevieve is the oldest daughter of Paul and Kathy, of Swedish, Irish, English and French-Canadian ancestry, and grew up in Falmouth, Maine, as her family moved there when she was three years old. She has a younger sister, Michelle Knight Hannelius, sometimes mixed up with the abduction victim, Michelle Knight. From an early age she was interested in entertainment and performing, and with the support of her parents, Genevieve soon started appearing in local theatre productions, when she was eight-years-old landing the starring role as Madeline in “Madeline’s Rescue”, and then as Jenny in “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing”. Encouraged by her early success, Genevieve decided to move to Los Angeles and start auditioning as a professional actress, so the whole family moved there in 2008.
