Kelly Tilghman was born on the 6th August 1969, in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina USA; she is the daughter of Phil Tilghman and Katherine Tilghman, who both ran and managed golf courses.
She spent her childhood in her hometown with her sister Kathryn Hemphill. When it comes to her education, after finished high school, Kelly enrolled at Duke University, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History. During her time at Duke, Kelly played golf and won several tournaments, including the Furman University’s Lady Paladin Invitational Golf Rivalry.
Golf Career
Before she ventured into sports journalism, Kelly played golf professionally, and competed on the tour between 1992 and 1996.
She participated in tournaments across Australia, Europe, and Asia. During her time as a pro, she also taught younger players and served as a teacher. However, with the creation of the Golf Channel, she decided to forego her career as a professional player, and focus more on giving reports and insights on the beautiful game of golf.

Kelly worked for the Golf Channel from its inception in 1995 until 2018, during which time she became one of the most prominent female golf reporters.
She started as a course reporter and slowly started working her way up at the station. After more than 10 years as a course reporter, during PGA Tour telecasts, and play-by-play announcer, Kelly was promoted to an anchor in 2007. She teamed up with Nick Faldo to form the lead broadcasting team for the majority of PGA Tour telecast.
Suspension
In 2008, Kelly made comments about Tiger Woods, stating that the young players should lynch Woods in a back alley; this came after her colleague, Nick Faldo’s joke that the young players should gang up on Woods.
Her comment caused controversy, and media covered the incident on a large scale, creating a lynch mob demanding Kelly’s suspension. At first, the network stood behind its employee, but it was in January 2009 that Kelly was be suspended for two weeks. Since then, Kelly has continued her career professionally, and even featured as an announcer of Tiger Woods golf games from 2009 to 2011.
