Ali’s mother was a realtor while her father was a trucking executive. She attended Cherry Hill High School West but wasn’t able to finish high school right away as she found a career in modelling early on, but did finish high school later on while already working. In the mid-1990s, Larter started getting featured on television as a guest in numerous popular televisions shows, including “Dawson’s Creek”, “Chicago Hope”, and “Just Shoot Me!” This eventually led to her film debut in 1999’s “Varsity Blues”, on which she worked with Amy Smart and James Van Der Beek, playing one of the love interests of the main characters. She would then have a supporting role in the film “Drive Me Crazy”, and afterwards was cast in the remake of “House on Haunted Hill”, which had negative reviews but did well in the box office.

In 2000, her popularity grew even further when she was cast as one of the main characters in the film “Final Destination”, then following year appeared alongside Reese Witherspoon in “Legally Blonde”, which would become her highest grossing film domestically. In 2005, Ali auditioned successfully for the television series “Heroes”, leading her to be cast as Niki Sanders and Tracy Strauss. The show proved very successful during the early seasons before it was cancelled.
