Elden is the son of George Ratliff and his wife whose identity hasn’t been revealed to the public. His father, an actor, inspired his sons to take acting seriously, and their mother would take them to commercial auditions, so Elden’s desire to become an actor strengthened. Elden has two siblings, Garette Ratliff Henson and Erick Ratliff, who are also actors. Elden is half-brother to another celebrity, Ellington Ratliff, who is a member of the band R5. the Ratliff family lived in Weehawken, New Jersey, where he attended Gary Golombek High School until its closure. Following matriculation, Elden enrolled at Emerson College.

Starting with appearances in commercials, Elden soon also made his acting debut as Paul Ryan in the soap opera “As the World Turns”, when he was only five years old. In 1985 he made a short appearance in the TV series “Amazing Stories”, and then a minor appearance in the film “Elvis and Me” in 1988.
