How rich is Eustace Conway? As of mid-2018, sources estimate a net worth that is at $200,000, earned through success in various endeavors. He is the owner of the 1,000-acre Turtle Island Preserve located in Boone, North Carolina. As he continues his efforts, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Early Life and Travels

While little is known about his childhood, it is known that Eustace left home at the age of 17 so that he could live in a tipi in the woods. He later hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, before going on to complete a degree in anthropology and English at the Appalachian State University. He later claimed to have set the world record for crossing the US while riding a horse on a path from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The claims were later disputed by several publications, saying that the record was set by Bud and Temple Abernathy aged 11 and 7 at the time on a trip from New York City to San Francisco spanning 62 days; their travels were documented in the book “Bud & Me”. A weekly show called “This American Life” gave an insight on Eustace’s travels in a segment called “Adventures in Simple Life” which started airing in 1998. Episodes of the show used recordings that were taped on a recorder which was carried by him and his group of travelers.

Fame in Front of the Cameras

In 2003, a documentary film was made based on Conway’s life entitled “Full Circle: A Life Story of Eustace Conway”; directed by Jack Bibbo, the documentary would increase Conway’s popularity and pave the way for his eventual career in front of the camera. He would become a part of another film entitled “Reconvergence” in 2012, which focuses on the viewpoints of various characters. Conway was the naturalist while other characters in the documentary included a scientist, poet, and historian.

Around the same time, he also became a part of the reality television series “Mountain Men”, which premiered on the History Channel in 2012. The show focuses on him and his land in the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina he calls Turtle Island. He helps people by teaching them wilderness survival skills, including ancient techniques on how to live off the land and earn an income. The show also focuses on a lien against his land, and his fight to maintain ownership. He is often joined in the show by Preston Roberts, his close friend.

Land Issues and Deaths

In 2012, Turtle Island was forced to shut down public access due to violations of building codes in North Carolina. A month later Eustace seemed to make progress towards resolving the issue with the North Carolina Building Code Council but the progress was cut short when he was arrested for trespassing n a neighbor’s property over dispute with its boundary. The problems were later noticed by The North Carolina General Assembly and they proposed an exemption to building code requirements when it comes to primitive structures. The bill was later passed and signed by Governor Pat McCrory, and the entire ordeal was covered by the Fox News special entitled “War on the Little Guy”.

There have been death rumors surrounding Eustace several times in his life, but they were actually proven false, as on one occasion the death reported was actually of Eustace’s father, Eustace Robinson Conway III. His close friend Preston Roberts also passed away in 2017, after fighting his battle with cancer for some time following the discovery that he had an inoperable tumor in his liver.

Personal Life and Social Media

According to reports, Conway has three siblings. There have been no reports of him being involved romantically, or getting married, so many sources believe he is still single. Even though he is called a naturalist, he isn’t out of touch when it comes to technology. He is active online through social media, specifically as a part of Facebook. His page details some of the projects he’s undertaken, including educational summer camp for kids. He also posts a lot of photos of his recent endeavors.
