Early Life, Parents, and Education

The younger daughter of Zulma M. and Edward Shimkus, Carley was born on the 7th November 1986, as Carley Noelle Shimkus in Long Valley, New Jersey. Carley has an older sister, Margot, who is an art teacher and artist herself. Her parents met in an airplane, on which her mother was working as a flight attendant, while her father was just one of many passengers; it was apparently love at first sight. During her teenage years and parallel with high school, Carley tried modeling; she was pretty good fit as a model, tall, slim and apparently beautiful, but soon enough she found out that for modeling she would need more than just looks – hard work – and she wasn’t that interested. So after finishing high school, Carley enrolled at Quinnipiac University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. Career Beginnings

Following her graduation, Carley looked for a place in journalism, and soon secured a spot with the Fox News Channel, perhaps an obvious development after completing her internship at the Fox office in Washington D.C. during her junior year at college. She was named a news correspondent soon after she joined, and was then named associate producer of the Imus in the Morning show.
