She is the daughter of an electrical engineer father and a homemaker mother. Although born in Chevy Chase, she spent much of her childhood in Turkey, due to the nature of her father’s job, where she went to an American school, but later enrolled at the University of Maryland, from which she graduated with a double degree in psychology and sociology.

Career and Rise to Prominence

Following her graduation, Gayle moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and soon found a place for herself as a reporter and weekend anchor at WDAF-TV. Five years later she became a part of the WSFB in Hartford, where she remained for the next 18 years. It was in 1999 that her life changed when she was recruited by O, The Oprah Magazine as an editor. Her first solo work came in 2006 when she was given her own “The Gayle King Show”, on XM Satellite Radio. She eventually moved to OWN in 2011, and in 2012 was recruited by CBS to become a co-anchor of the “CBS This Morning”.
