She continued her education Beijing, China at a research institution in Peking University, studyinged for a Master’s degree in International Affairs. Afterwards, she went to the London School of Economics and Political Science, completing another Master’s degree in 2009, then worked in China as a Fulbright Scholar, on a program which aims is to help improve relations, diplomacy, and competence by selecting American citizens to receive research or education grants and study abroad. Jo Ling researched domestic abuse and sexual harassment, specifically about the impact of legal aid on these cases.

Journalism Career

Kent began her career as a digital reporter for ABC News’ Beijing Bureau, during which time  she covered several high profile events, including the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She also went to Taiwan to do live coverage of their 2008 elections, and covered the Sichuan earthquake, plus reporting on civil unrest that was building up in Tibet. The following year, she would become an associate producer for ABC, a position she held for two years, while also working for NBC News as a Campaign Embedded reporter.

She soon left NBC, and moved to Connecticut in 2012 to join NBC News, in the role of an Investigative and General Assignment reporter. For her work covering the Newtown school shooting, she was awarded a Peabody Award, but the following year she left NBC to join the Fox Business Network (FBN) as a news correspondent. She worked there for three years, and even had a role with Fox News Radio, working on the podcast entitled “Fast Forward with JL”. She handled global technology reports and also conducted interviews for numerous high profile technological executives, interviewing such as John Legere of T-Mobile, Mary Barra of General Motors, and Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma among many others.

Leaving Fox Business Network and Return to NBC

Jo Ling suddenly left the Fox Business Network in 2016, amid numerous rumors – according to reports from co-workers, she sent an email that she was leaving and updated her LinkedIn profile to show that she is returning to NBC News. There were some rumors that Jo Ling was trying to do a quick move to Fox News Channel from Fox Business, and demanded it happen as soon as possible. The network initially had plans for her to become a big name on Fox Business, but she had apparently made big demands which led to her leaving.

She’s returned to NBC News as a news correspondent. She also works as a part of the board of directors of the Minnesota YMCA Youth in Government.

It is known that Kent is married to journalist Scott Conroy, who is also an author, but best known for working as a senior political reporter for the Huffington Post, and has made numerous television appearances.
