Who is Kelli Garner?
Kelli Brianne Garner was born on 11 April 1984, in Bakersfield, California USA, and is an actress, well known for her roles in films such as “The Aviator”, “Horns”, and ‘Thumbsucker”. Her feature film debut was the thriller entitled “Bully”, released in 2001.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Growing up, Kelli described herself as shy, though despite this, she was noticed by a talent agent while she was attending a friend’s bar mitzvah, which led to one of her first roles in an Eggo commercial. She attended Thousand Oaks High School, and during her time there was cast in the short film “Architecture of Assurance”, which was released in 2000 to critical acclaim. She also played soccer, and initially wanted to become a professional soccer player before acting roles came her way. After matriculating, she started to gain more roles through short films, before getting a supporting role in the television film “Time Share”. In 2001 she made her film debut in “Bully” in which she plays Heather Swallers, a teenager who becomes entwined in an orchestrated murder of one of her peers. Her next major role would come three years later in the Martin Scorsese film “The Aviator”, playing the role of actress Faith Domergue, having auditioned in front of Scorsese and co-star Leonardo DiCaprio for the role.
Career Prominence
In 2005, Garner appeared in the comedy “Man of the House” and the teen drama “Thumbsucker”, which starred Vince Vaughn; the independent film focuses on a teenager coping with his thumb-sucking problem, romance, and a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Around the same time, she also had roles in “London” and “Dreamland”, which got her a Method Fest Independent Film Festival Best Actress Award. She also tried her hand at stage work with the Off-Broadway play “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead”, then worked with the band Green Day on music videos “Jesus of Suburbia”, and “Whatsername”.
In 2007, she gained a lot of critical acclaim for her role in “Lars and the Real Girl”, co-starring alongside Ryan Gosling, in which Gosling’s character develops a romantic but platonic relationship with a sex doll. Her next project would come the following year in an off-Broadway production of “The Seagull”, starring opposite Dianne Wiest; the play is one of the first four major plays of Anton Chekhov. In 2009, she had a small role in the comedy “Taking Woodstock”, and was also one of the characters in the Disney film “G-Force”.
Later Projects
The following year, Kelli had a supporting role in the film “Going the Distance”, which stars Drew Barrymore, and features a couple falling in love in New York City, and trying to keep their long-distance relationship alive. In 2011, Kelli was then cast in a main role in the series “Pan Am” which ran for a year, and featured pilots and stewardesses from the early 1960s, however, it was cancelled after just a season. She subsequently worked with Danielle Radcliffe in the film “Horns”, which is loosely based on the Joe Hill novel of the same name.
Her next role would be in the mini-series “The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe”, playing the titular character, acting alongside Susan Sarandon. In 2015, she became a part of the independent film “When I Live My Life Over Again” which also starred Amber Heard and Christopher Walken. One of her latest projects is the series “The Enemy Within”, set to premiere on NBC as part of its 2019 programming.
