Who is Kyrie Irving?
Kyrie was born in Melbourne, Victoria Australia, on 23 March 1992, so under the zodiac sign of Aries and now holding both Australian and American nationalities – he is famous for his basketball career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), while he has also done a little acting throughout the years.
Who is Kyrie Irving’s girlfriend today?
Kyrie Irving’s girlfriend today is… nobody. The popular basketball player dated Andrea Wilson, a Texas beauty queen, but the two split some time ago – they have a daughter together named Azurie Elizabeth Irving. Kyrie appears to be single at the moment, and there aren’t even any rumors about him seeing anyone secretly.
Early life and education
Kyrie was born in Australia, but both of his parents are American and they moved back to America two years after he was born – Kyrie’s parents are Drederick and Elizabeth Irving while he has an older and a younger sister named Asia and London, respectively. Sadly, Kyrie’s mother died when he was four years old; his father remarried to Shetellia Irving.
Drederick played basketball for the Boston University’s team while he was studying there, and after he graduated moved to Australia to be a professional basketball player. This inspired Kyrie to become a basketball player as well – all it took was one game he played when he was in fourth grade of elementary school, and he promised himself that he’d play in the NBA someday. Thanks to his father’s association with Boston University, Kyrie was able to spend time there, and was eventually awarded a scholarship.
The beginning of his career
Kyrie’s basketball career began while he was still attending high school, a member of the school’s team and during his second year there, he led the team to the New Jersey Prep ‘B’ state title. Because he was in need of a challenge, Kyrie decided to switch schools and moved to St. Patrick High School, and with their team won the New Jersey Tournament of Champions, and was the most valuable player (MVP) in 2009.
At the beginning of 2010, Kyrie became part of the Junior National Select Team and then competed at the FIBA Americas Under- 18 Championship, where they managed to win the gold medal. During 2010 and 2011 in his first year at college, he played for the Blue Devils team and did very well, but injure his ligaments and had to spend some time on the bench.
Becoming one of the professionals
In 2011, Kyrie joined the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA team on a three-year contract – in 2012, he competed at the Rising Stars Challenge and became the most valuable player, and did so well that he won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
During a practice game in July 2012, Kyrie deliberately hit a wall with his hand, and had to undergo surgery to fix it, then broke one of his fingers shortly afterwards, and had to take a break of three weeks.
At the end of his contract with Cavaliers, he extended with a five-year contract worth $90 million. During the first year he helped to get Cavaliers to the NBA Finals which had only happened once in the history of the club before – during the first match, Kyrie injured his knee and had to rest for the next four months.
Leaving Cleveland Cavaliers and joining Boston Celtics
Even though his contract wasn’t finished, Kyrie asked his team to trade him to the Boston Celtics as he didn’t want to play alongside LeBron James, but rather be the center of attention. The trade was completed and Kyrie led Celtics to numerous victories, including against the Spurswhich the Celtics hadn’t done Spurs since 2011. In April 2018, the screws which were put into his patella in 2015 were removed, and had to rest for the next half a year before everything healed properly.
Kyrie is currently playing for the Boston Celtics in 2019.
Kyrie as part of the national team
Even though he had a chance to become part of the Australian national team at the 2012 Olympics, he decided to become part of the US national team, and helped the team to win the gold medal, being named the most valuable player of the tournament, and the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year. He competed once again as part of the US team at the Summer Olympics in 2016, and won another gold medal.
Career of an actor
Just as many other popular professional sportsmen, Kyrie began appearing in commercials – the first was for Pepsi Max in 2012. The commercials counted several episodes, and Kyrie himself directed episodes two, three and four – he remains the face of Pepsi Max to this day.
Kyrie also made a short appearance in a single episode of the “Kickin’ It” Disney XD series in 2012. He also played the lead character in an episode of the “My Houzz” TV series – in the episode, Kyrie surprised his father when he came to completely renovate his house.
Kyrie’s last credit in his acting career was voicing a character in the “Family Guy” animated TV series in 2018.
Likes, hobbies, and other interests
Basketball is not the only thing which interests Kyrie – he enjoys reading, and is writing his own journal. He is said to be a good singer and a dancer, while he can also play the baritone saxophone.
Kyrie’s favorite actor and actress are Bruce Lee and Emma Mackay, his dream holiday destination is Switzerland and his favorite colors are black and white. He loves travelling, enjoys being in nature, mountains specifically which is why he would love to visit Switzerland. His favorite dish is fruit custard and juice.
Kyrie’s past affairs and relationships
Kyrie was once in a serious relationship with Andrea Wilson, and is the father of a daughter born from that relationship, born on 23 November 2015, and named Azurie Elizabeth Irving, ‘Elizabeth’ because Kyrie wanted to honor his late mother.
Some of Kyrie’s ex-girlfriends include Kehlani who he dated from November 2015 to March 2016, and Chantel Jeffries who he was with from March to August 2016.
Saving the environment
Although he is not a man with too much free time, Kyrie stands for what he believes in – after the people from the Standing Rock Sioux tribe protested against the pipelines which were meant to be built in North Dakota, Kyrie provided support on his social media platforms, and in August 2018 became a member of the tribe, together with his older sister Asia. Their late mother was also a member of the tribe and lived with them before she was adopted as a little girl – their grandmother and great-grandparents were also connected to the tribe.
Is the Earth flat or round?
There are some controversies following Kyrie’s belief about the shape of Earth – during an interview in February 2017, Kyrie stated that the Earth is flat. In an interview following that one, he stated how he was only joking and encouraged people to do some research on their own if they want some answers. When he was asked again about his beliefs in June 2018, he stated that he isn’t sure about the shape of the Earth, and again encouraged people to do some research. Sometime in 2018, he apologized for making these claims.
There are two conspiracy theories unrelated to Kyrie which he believes in – that the Federal Reserve murdered John F. Kennedy, and that the CIA once tried to assassinate Bob Marley.
