Early Life and Education

Vanna is the daughter of Miguel Angel Rosich and his now ex-wife Joan Marie; when Vanna was still an infant her parents divorced, and her mother then married Herbert Stackley White Jr., who worked as a real estate broker; as a result, Vanna took the surname from her stepfather. She grew up in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and following her completion of high school, Vanna moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she enrolled at the Atlanta School of Fashion. While studying she also modeled, and in 1978 participated in the Miss Georgia pageant. The following year, she moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of an acting career.

Career Beginnings

Before becoming a TV star, in 1980 Vanna secured her debut as Mickey in the film “Gypsy Angels”. The next year, she portrayed Devona in the television film “Midnight Offerings”, but in October 1982 she made headlines when chosen as the substitute host of the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune”, next to Vicki McCarty and Summer Bartholomew, and just two months later was named as the regular hostess.

“Wheel of Fortune”

Since becoming the regular hostess, Vanna has appeared in more than 6,500 episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated show, and has herself received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to the show. She is responsible for uncovering the letters on the show’s large puzzle board, and modeling an ever-changing line of designs. She is still under contract as the host of “Wheel of Fortune” until 2020.

Success Beside “Wheel of Fortune”

Vanna’s increasing popularity led to television appearances in such programs as “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”, “Entertainment Tonight”, and also “Live! with Kelly”. Her acting career reached a new level when she made guest appearances in the TV series’ “Simon & Simon” in 1987, then “Santa Barbara” in 1988, and she also featured in the film “Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult” in 1994. Most recently, she appeared in the TV series “Fresh Off the Boat” in 2017.
