Born Vanna Marie Rosich on the 18th February 1957, in Conway, South Carolina USA, she is a television personality and actress, best known to the world as the host of the long-running popular TV game show “Wheel of Fortune” (1983-2018), while she is also known from playing Mickey in the film “Gypsy Angels” in 1980.
Early Life and Education
Vanna is the daughter of Miguel Angel Rosich and his now ex-wife Joan Marie; when Vanna was still an infant her parents divorced, and her mother then married Herbert Stackley White Jr., who worked as a real estate broker; as a result, Vanna took the surname from her stepfather. She grew up in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and following her completion of high school, Vanna moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she enrolled at the Atlanta School of Fashion. While studying she also modeled, and in 1978 participated in the Miss Georgia pageant. The following year, she moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of an acting career.
Career Beginnings
Before becoming a TV star, in 1980 Vanna secured her debut as Mickey in the film “Gypsy Angels”. The next year, she portrayed Devona in the television film “Midnight Offerings”, but in October 1982 she made headlines when chosen as the substitute host of the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune”, next to Vicki McCarty and Summer Bartholomew, and just two months later was named as the regular hostess.
