Although an actress with seven credits to her name, Amarah’s probably known best for being the daughter of Whoopi Goldberg. Her most notable acting performance was perhaps her portrayal of Classroom Kid in the 1993 musical family comedy movie “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit”, directed by Bill Duke, and which starred her mother Whoopi, Kathy Najimy and Maggie Smith. It follows Showgirl Deloris Van Cartier who has dressed up as Sister Mary Clarence, and has begun teaching music at a Catholic school; the movie won one of the four awards for which it was nominated.

Alex was raised in California as an only child, by her mother and her father Alvin Martin; Alvin was Whoopi’s first husband, and they were married from 1973 to 1979. Whoopi later married American cinematographer David Claessen in 1986, but divorced him two years later, and was subsequently married to her third husband Lyle Trachtenberg in 1994 and 1995. Whoopi has also been in a relationship with American actor Frank A. Langella Jr. and American actor and producer Edward Bridge ‘Ted’ Danson III; Ted was married when they had an affair, and it led to his divorce.

Alex became interested in acting at a very early age, looking up to her mother, and was 12 when she made her debut film appearance, with her portrayal of Little Girl in the 1985 drama movie “The Color Purple”, directed by Steven Spielberg, and which starred her mother, Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey. It follows a black woman who has been abused by her father and other people for more than 40 years, and is now struggling to find her own identity; the movie won 14 of the 47 awards for which it was nominated, including 11 Oscar nominations.

A couple of Alex’s following roles were in the 1993 action adventure comedy movie “Quest of the Delta Knights”, the 1997 episode “Criag Killborn 1” of the series “Stand Up Comedy Specials”, and the 1999 comedy movie “American Intellectuals”.

She has only two other acting credits. Alex played Member of the Congregation in the 2001 family comedy movie “Call Me Claus”, and portrayed Maria in the 2003 thriller movie “Strange as Angels”.

She has two producing credits: the 2008 short animated film “Descendants”, and the 2018 short comedy movie “Sensitive Men”.

Alex has made a guest appearance in a number of talk-shows, including “Good Morning America”, “The Wendy Williams Show”, and “E! Live from the Red Carpet”.

She has won only a single award: a 1994 Miss Golden Globe Award.

Alex and her husband Gary married sometime in the ‘90s, and have since re-married twice, most recently in 2011.
