Early Life and Education

There is limited information regarding Caitlin’s family life, childhood, and the development of her interests towards acting. It is known that she grew up in Los Angeles, a place known for being the home of many popular stars. She attended Malibu High School which is a public school in California, and after matriculating enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA).

UCLA is the southern branch of the University of California system, having been established in 1919. It is the fourth oldest of the 10 campus system and offers over 300 degree programs covering a wide range of disciplines. There are around 44,000 students there annually and is the most applied to of any American university. The school is considered one of the Public Ivies, meaning that their quality of education rivals with that of the Ivy League. Acting Career

Gerard graduated in 2010 with a BA degree in English, and began taking acting projects, beginning with the film “The Social Network” in which she played the character Ashleigh. It is a biographical film adapted from the book “The Accidental Billionaires”, which tells the story of the founding of the social network site Facebook with Jessie Eisenberg starring as the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. The film was made without the involvement of any of the Facebook staff, including Zuckerberg.

A year later, Caitlin had a small role in “Answers to Nothing” which is a mystery thriller film starring Elizabeth Mitchell, then in 2012 was cast in the film “Magic Mike”, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matt Bomer. It follows the story of a 19 year-old male stripper, who is guided by one who has been in the business for six years. It is based on the experiences of Channing Tatum working as a stripper in Tampa, Florida.

Continued Rise to Prominence

Also in 2012 she worked on the slasher horror film entitled “Smiley” which starred her alongside Melanie Papalia, then the following year became a main cast member in the television show “Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous”, the story of a teenager who opts to pursue a life of fame instead of attending college. He hires a camera crew to film himself on his quest, even though he doesn’t have talent. The show only lasted for a season, and she was then selected for one of her most notable roles, in “American Crime”.

It’s an anthology series with each season introducing a new story with new characters, and gained a lot of critical acclaim throughout three seasons.

In 2018 Caitlin was cast in the film “Insidious: The Last Key”, a supernatural film and the fourth installment in the “Insidious” franchise. In terms of the chronological setting, it is the second in the story which follows para-psychologist Elise Rainier as she investigates a haunting inside her childhood home. Caitlin was also given a recurring role in the fifth and final season of “The Last Ship”, which is loosely based on the 1988 novel of the same name by William Brinkley.

In 2019, she was labelled by “GQ” magazine as one of the rising leading stars of the horror genre, for her performance in the film “The Wind”. She’s recently been doing independent film projects.
