In the late 1990s he was appointed as a ‘second mic’ to radio host Wendy, Williams and then came up with a stage name ‘Charlamagne Tha God’, based on Charlemagne (often referred to as Charles the Great) who was known as the ‘Father of Europe’, while also resembling Lenard’s drug dealing pseudonym ‘Charles’ – he added ‘Tha God’ because ‘it sounded cool’. Charlamagne Tha God built a name for himself in the radio industry for his upfront approach to questioning his guests, and came into the limelight in 2008 when he launched his own syndicated radio show “The Breakfast Club”, which is airing on WWPR-FM and which besides him, is co-hosted by Angela Yee and DJ Envy.
