Who is Marcelo Vieira?

Brazilian-Spanish professional soccer player Marcelo Vieira da Silva Junior, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazi,l on 12 May 1988, making his zodiac sign Taurus. He’s today playing for the soccer team Fluminense of the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, but is probably known best for the time he spent playing for the Spanish team Real Madrid, with which he won 25 trophies, more than any other Real Madrid player.

Education and early life

Marcelo was raised alongside his sister Julia Vieira in Rio de Janeiro, by their mother Maria da Silva and father Marcelo Vieira da Silva Senior; not many details have been shared about Marcelo’s family as he respects their privacy, but it’s known that it was his grandfather who supported and encouraged him to pursue a career as a professional soccer player.

Marcelo was nine when he began playing futsal, and was 13 when he started playing for Fluminense’s junior team; his family was very poor, and this led Marcelo to think about quitting soccer, however, his grandfather gave him the money for gear. and wouldn’t allow him to stop pursuing his dreams.

He was 15 when he joined Real Madrid in January 2007, and many people saw Marcelo as the successor to Brazilian former professional soccer player Roberto Carlos da Silva Rocha.

Marcelo’s career

Marcelo’s first match with Real Madrid was a 2-0 lost against Deportivo La Coruna on 7 January 2007, when he entered as a substitute; he played his first match as a starter on 14 April 2007, which Real Madrid lost 2-1 to Racing de Santander.

He started nearly all the matches in the 2007-2008 season, and it was made clear during the season that Marcelo would become one of the most important Real Madrid players, however, he had a rather poor 2008-2009 season, which left him benched for a couple of matches; Marcelo was then made a winger, and scored his first goal in a match against Sporting Gijon. His third goal was on 18 April 2009, when Real Madrid defeated Huelva, and Marcelo scored his fourth goal in late April in a match against Sevilla.

Real Madrid welcomed their new head coach Manuel Pellegrini in 2009, and he insisted that Marcelo be a starter for the entire season; he kept his position as a left-winger, and signed a new five-year contract with Real Madrid on 5 February 2010. 2009-2010 is still regarded as Marcelo’s breakthrough season.

Jose Mourinho was the new head coach of Real Madrid for the 2010-2011 season, and Marcelo was returned to being left back; he started all the games of the season – Real Madrid lost in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Marcelo’s amazing attacking and defensive skills attracted a lot of attention, and the late Argentine professional soccer player Diego Maradona ranked him third best La Liga player, behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He became the captain of Real Madrid in February 2013, after having returned from an injury, and the first match which he played as the captain ended in a 2-1 win against Los Merengues; Marcelo also won his second match as the captain, with Real Madrid defeating Real Betis 3-1.

He signed a new five-year contract with Real Madrid on 10 July 2015, and his first goal of the season was in a 3-0 win against Levante; the same season saw the team win the Champions League, while the 2016-2017 season saw them win La Liga. Real Madrid also won the Champions League in both the 2016-2017 and the 2017-2018 seasons.

Marcelo signed a new five-year contract with the club on 13 September 2017, and the season 2017-2018 saw Real Madrid win the Club World Cup, while the following season saw them win La Liga. He suffered a number of injuries during the 2020-2021 season, and spent many matches on the bench; Real Madrid won the 2021-2022 Champions League, and Marcelo then revealed that he was leaving the club.

He signed with Olympiacos of the Super League Greece on 3 September 2022, then on 24 February 2023 with Fluminense of Brazil.

Playing for Brazil

Marcelo’s first match for the Brazil national soccer team was on 5 September 2006, when they defeated Wales 2-0, and he was on their 2008 Olympic U23 squad when they won a bronze medal.

Marcelo played for Brazil at the 2012 Summer Olympics, with the team winning a silver medal, and he then competed with them in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, scoring an own goal in the first match on 12 June against Croatia, but Brazil still won 3-1.

He played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but Brazil lost to Belgium in the quarter-finals.

Love life and wife

Marcelo prefers to keep the details of his love life to himself, and we thus know about only a single woman whom he’s been with. He and non-celebrity Brazilian Clarice Alves were in a relationship for several years prior to marrying in 2008, in a large ceremony attended by many of their friends and family members. Clarice gave birth to their first son Enzo Alves Vieira on 24 September 2009, and he’s today a popular professional soccer player, playing for Real Madrid’s U15 team.

Clarice gave birth to her and Marcelo’s second son Liam, on 1 September 2015.

Interesting facts and hobbies

Marcelo’s a huge fan of tattoos and has numerous – his left arm’s nearly entirely inked.

His grandfather died during the World Cup in July 2014; Marcelo wanted to leave the cup and attend the funeral, but chose to continue playing so to honor his grandfather’s wishes.

It was on 26 July 2011 that he was granted Spanish citizenship.

It was revealed in April 2013 that Marcelo had signed a deal with Adidas.

Marcelo’s an Instagram star, as over 65 million people are following him on the network today, and he’s posted nearly 3,000 pictures and videos; most of his content is in one way or another related to soccer.

He’s a philanthropist, and often attends fundraiser events, while he’s mostly into helping bring soccer closer to underprivileged youth.

Marcelo’s favorite actor is Cillian Murphy, and some of his favorite movies include “Oppenheimer”, “The Wind That Shakes the Barley” and “A Quiet Place II”.
