Career Beginnings

During Cryan’s time with the university, she became involved in numerous weather-related activities and organizations to help build her skills in the craft, and was a member of the Campus Weather Service, Weather World, and the Penn State Network, as well as other activities. After completing her degree, she went on to pursue her dream of becoming a meteorologist, gaining her first job with the station KMID-TV Big 2 News in 2010; the station is an ABC affiliate and serves the Permian Basin area of Texas.

She served there for seven months and then moved to KTAB/KRBC also in Texas as both a reporter as well as a meteorologist. This time, she worked with a CBS affiliated station KTAB owned by Nexstar Media Group which also operates the NBC affiliate KRBC in which she also worked. The two are known to share studios with a shared service agreement. She served with both stations for the next two years, and then left to work for the station WSFA 12 News in 2013, based in West Montgomery, Alabama.

Recent Endeavors

After a year with WSFA 12 News, Monica then decided to join NBC Connecticut or WVIT which is an NBC-owned station serving the Hartford-New Haven television market. The station is known for its news broadcasts as well as other original programming. She left the station in 2015 to work with WeatherNation, which primarily broadcasts live and pre-recorded weather forecasts.
