His mother left the family when Carlson was six years old, and his father later remarried to Patricia Caroline Swanson, who is an heiress to the Swanson frozen-food fortune. Tucker lived in several places during his formative years and attended several schools, including La Jolla Country Day School, and eventually matriculated from St. George’s School. Tucker then enrolled at Trinity College, in Hartford, Connecticut, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1991.

Career

Following his graduation, Tucker launched his career and was first a fast-checker for Policy Review, and then joined Arkansas Democrat-Gazette as a reporter. He held the position for several years, before he became a part of The Weekly Standard newsmagazine. Before he made the move to television, he worked for several other magazines and newspapers, and as he became more popular, he started writing columns for several high-profile magazines, such as The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, and Reader’s Digest, among others.

His television career started on CNN as a co-host of the show “The Spin Room”. After this, he co-hosted “Crossfire” from 2001 until 2005, when he left CNN to join MSNBC, hosting his own show “Tucker”; this was canceled before the end of the third season, as the show was facing low ratings. He left MSNBC in 2008, and the next year became a contributor for Fox News Channel.
