Who is Pia Wurtzbach?

German-Filipina model, actress and beauty queen Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach-Jauncey was born under the zodiac sign Libra in Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg, (then) West Germany on 24 September 1989. She’s perhaps known best for having been crowned Miss Universe in 2015, while she’s also known for portraying the lead characters Cassey and Kweenie in the 2017 comedy movie “Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad”, which also starred Vice Ganda and Daniel Padilla, and was directed by Joyce Bernal. It follows The Revenger Squad, who’ve revealed their superpowers now that their youngest member has turned 21, and the film won two of its six award nominations.

Pia’s also known for being the wife of Jeremy Jauncey, a British entrepreneur and social media star, who’s perhaps known best for being the founder and CEO of the travel agency Beautiful Destinations.

Education and early life

Pia was raised alongside her two years junior sister in Stuttgart by their Filipina mother and German father; the family eventually moved to the City of Iligan, Philippines prior to settling in the City of Cagayan de Oro in Northern Mindanao, Philippines.

Pia attended the kindergarten Kong Hua School prior to progressing to the elementary school Corpus Christi; she was 11 when her parents separated, and she went on to financially support her mother and sister after having launched her modelling and acting career. Pia was 12 when she made her debut TV series appearance, portraying Jewel in the 2002 drama “K2BU”, and the following year saw her make her debut film appearance, portraying Young Chari in the romantic comedy “Kung Ako na Lang Sana”, which starred Aga Muhlach and Sharon Cuneta, and was written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes. It follows Vince and Emmy who’ve been best friends for many years, while Emmy’s only now realized that she’s in love with him; the film won one of its four award nominations.

Upon matriculating from ABS-CBN Distance Learning Center in 2008, Pia enrolled at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies in San Juan, Philippines from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in culinary arts in 2011.

Roles in TV series

Pia has appeared in six TV series and six movies. She played Allison in the 2003 romantic drama “It Might Be You”, which stars John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, and follows the lives of several young adults in pursuit of love and career; the series has aired 264 episodes since 2003. In 2005, Pia played a supporting character in the drama “Bora: Sons of the Beach”, and the following year saw her play Julia in the drama “Sa Piling Mo”.

In 2012, she portrayed Sari in the episode “Sirena sa Breakwater” of the fantasy horror “Third Eye”, which starred Victor Silayan and Eula Caballero, and follows the life of a psychic medium.

Pia’s only other TV series role has been playing Marilou, Elaine and Michelle in four episodes of the biographical romantic drama “Maalaala Mo Kaya”, which starred Cris Villanueva and Charo Santos-Concio, and follows the true life stories of various extraordinary people; the series aired over 1,300 episodes from 1991 through 2022, and won eight of its 23 award nominations.

Roles in movies

In 2004, Pia played Sarah in the romantic drama “All My Life”, which starred Kristine Hermosa and Aga Muhlach, and was directed by Laurenti M. Dyogi. It follows Louie and Sam who met on a cruise ship and became friends, while they’ve now met again and have fallen in love; the film was nominated for three awards.

In 2006, Pia starred as Carmi in the romantic drama “All About Love”, which also starred John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, and was directed by Don Cuaresma and Joyce Bernal. It follows the lives of three couples, and the film won one of its three award nominations.

Pia portrayed the lead character Abi in the 2018 romantic drama “My Perfect You”, which also starred Tonton Gutierrez and Gerald Anderson, and was written and directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. It follows heartbroken Burn who’s fallen in love with the lively hostel owner Abi, and the movie was nominated for only a single award.

Pia finished second in the 2013 Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant, and the following year saw her place amongst the top 15.

She won the competition on her third attempt in 2015, being crowned Miss Universe Philippines, and then proceeded to compete in the 2015 Miss Universe; the host of the show, American celebrity Steve Harvey mistakenly announced that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was the winner, but revealing a couple of minutes later that he was wrong, and that it was actually Pia who won the pageant – she was thus crowned Miss Universe.

Love life and husband

Pia revealed in 2017 that she didn’t want children and had no plans to marry, however, she changed her mind after falling in love with above mentioned British entrepreneur Jeremy Jauncey.

The two met in May 2020, and confirmed their relationship on their social media networks in the following month; Jeremy’s followed by over 1.5 million people on Instagram and has posted nearly 3,000 pictures and videos onto the network. Pia and Jeremy announced in June 2022 that they’d become engaged, and they exchanged vows in a small and private ceremony on 24 March 2023; it was only revealed a month later that Pia and Jeremy had married.

There are no other men whom Pia’s perhaps been with, that we know about; she’s married to Jeremy Jauncey as of August 2023 and doesn’t have children.

Interesting facts and hobbies

Pia’s a practicing Roman Catholic but still supports views contrary to the teachings of her own religion; she supports the recognition of LGBT rights in Philippines, and the country’s Reproductive Health Law; Pope Francis sent her a personal rosary on 13 December 2016.

She’s an advocate for gender equality, and was in 2017 named a Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) Goodwill Ambassador.

Pia delivered a speech against bullying at the Speakers Forum on 28 February 2016.

She threw the ceremonial first pitch for the New York Mets baseball game on 27 April 2016.

More than 14 million people are following Pia on Instagram today, and she’s posted over 5,000 pictures and videos onto the network, with most featuring her during her everyday life, whether she’s attending various read carpet events, reading a book or relaxing at the beach.
