Who is Shelley Conn?
British actress Shelley Deborah Conn was born under the zodiac sign Virgo on 21 September 1976 in Barnet, North London, England. She has 65 acting credits and is perhaps known best for playing Lady Mary Sharma in eight episodes (2022) of the romantic series “Bridgerton”, which stars Luke Newton, Julie Andrews and Nicola Coughlan, and was created by Chris Van Dusen in 2020. The series follows the lives of members of the Bridgerton family, and has won 13 of the 89 awards for which it’s been nominated.

Shelley was raised alongside her brother Stevan Conn in London, by their Anglo-Indian parents about whom Shelley avoids speaking in public as she respects their privacy; it’s believed that they were the owners of their own small business, but this remains unconfirmed.
Shelley studied at Cranbourne School prior to progressing to Queen Mary’s College (high school) aged 16, and was into several activities during her two years there as she was a member of the school’s drama club, took dance lessons and ran track. Shelley’s debut film role was playing Uzma in the 2000 romantic thriller “The Last Musketeer”, and some of her following roles were in the 2000 romantic comedy “Maybe Baby”, the 2001 crime mystery “Hawkins”, and the 2003 drama “Man and Boy”.
In 2005, she played Princess Pondicherry in the popular adventure family comedy “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, which starred Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore, and which Tim Burton directed. It follows the world’s most unusual candy maker as he’s taking a group of children on a tour through his chocolate factory, and the movie won 15 of the 67 awards for which it was nominated, including an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Costume Design. In 2014, Shelley played Preea Vasami in the crime comedy “Flim: The Movie”, which starred Jody Marriott Bar-Lev and Rebecca Atkinson, and was written and directed by Raffaello Degruttola. It follows the life of an Indian movie director and the film was nominated for only a single award.
Shelley portrayed Professor Samantha Harlow in the 2018 horror mystery thriller “Malevolent”, which starred Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Florence Pugh, and was directed by Olaf de Fleur Johannesson. It follows a team of scam artists as they’re spending the night at a haunted country estate, and the film was nominated for only a single award.

Shelley’s debut TV series role was playing Naz in the 2000 episode “No Direction Home” of the crime drama “City Central”, and some of her following appearances were in an episode or two of the drama “Attachments”, the crime drama “Merseybeat” and the drama “Casualty”.
In 2005, she played Kerry Jamill in nine episodes of the romantic comedy “Down to Earth”, which starred Denise Welch and Ricky Tomlinson, and was created by Ashley Pharoah. It follows Brian Addis and his wife Faith as they’re working on opening their holiday home ‘Phyllishayes’, and the series was nominated for a single award. In 2014, she played First Lady Gabrielle Westwood in the science fiction “The Lottery”, which starred Michael Graziadei and Marley Shelton, and was created by Timothy J. Sexton; set in a world in which women can no longer have children, the movie follows 100 embryos which have been successfully fertilized, and a national lottery which is to decide the surrogates.
Some of Shelley’s most recent roles in TV series have been in a 2022 episode of the crime mystery mini-series “Four Lives”, four episodes of the 2023 fantasy comedy “Good Omens”, and three episodes of the 2023 action adventure comedy “Gen V”.
