Education and early life

Nathan was raised in Wales by his mother and father about whom he hasn’t shared any details, because he respects their privacy; it’s believed that his father was an elementary school soccer coach, and his mother an English language teacher, but this hasn’t been addressed by Nathan. He’s also believed to be an only child, having not spoken about having siblings.

Nathan began playing soccer at a very early age, even before enrolling at local elementary school. He was 14 when he joined the local youth club Cardiff City, but was released by them in 1991, the same year he matriculated from a local high school.

Nathan was into several other activities during his teenage years, as he also enjoyed running track and playing basketball.

He hasn’t attended college.

Career as a soccer player

Nathan joined Penydarren Park in 1993 and stayed with them for two years prior to signing a £10,000 contract with Luton Town in July 1995.

He was dissatisfied at Luton, and thus quit after a couple of months and moved to Spain, joining the team Badajoz of Segunda Division, managed by British manager and former professional soccer player Colin Addison. The team was very close to being promoted to La Liga in the 1995-1996 season, as they needed only one more goal.

Nathan joined Numancia of the Segunda Division B for the 1996-1997 season and helped them become promoted to Segunda Division (A); he’s since stated that his time in Spain helped him later on in life.

In 1997, Nathan joined Southend United and stayed with them for the following three years, but spent the season 1998-1989 playing for Scarborough on a loan. The year 2000 saw him sign a contract with Brighton & Hove Albion, subsequently playing in more than 150 games.

It was in 2005 that Nathan joined Yeovil Town, and became a member of its first team; he captained the team at the 2007 Football League One play-off final, with Yeovil losing 0-2 to Blackpool.

Nathan became the development coach of Charlton Athletic of EFL League One on 27 June 2012, and the assistant head coach of Brighton & Hove Albion on 19 July 2013; after the team’s head coach Oscar Garcia’s departure, Sami Hyypia joined Brighton as their new manager while Nathan was promoted to first-team head coach. Sami resigned on 22 December 2014 and Nathan was then promoted to caretaker manager, but was demoted to first-team coach on 3 February 2015.

Nathan joined Luton Town as their manager on 6 January 2016, signing a 2.5 years contract; he led the team to win 11 of their 21 games during the remainder of the 2015-2016 season. He made big changes in the team’s setup for the 2016-2017 season, firing 12 players and hiring eight new, and this led to them reaching the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy.

Nathan signed a new 3.5 years contract with Luton on 20 March 2017, and they finished the 2016-2017 season in fourth place; he was named League Two Manager of the Month in October 2017, and the team was promoted to League One on 21 April 2018. Nathan then lead them to second place in League One in January 2019 and Luton allowed him to enter negotiations with Stoke City.

He became the new manager of Stoke City on 9 January 2019, but was released on 1 November 2019 after having won only one of 14 games.

He returned to Luton Town on 28 May 2020 and signed a new seven-year contract with the team in January 2022; Nathan was named EFL Championship Manager of the Season in 2022.

He signed with Southampton of Premier League as their manager on 10 November 2022, but was fired on 12 February 2023.

Love life and marriage

Nathan’s more or less successful in keeping the details of his love life away from media but we know that he’s today a married man. He and British former model Laurie Jayne Jeans were together for several years prior to marrying in a private ceremony on 7 June 2019; the wedding was attended by only their closest friends and family members. They have no children together, and this is widely believed to be because both Nathan and Laurie want to focus on their careers, but this hasn’t been addressed by them; some fans believe that one of them is perhaps infertile, but no evidence has been provided to support these claims.

Laurie prefers to stay away from media and isn’t active on any social media networks; it’s known that she was born in Wales in 1983.
