She was educated at Lake Highland Preparatory School, and after matriculating, enrolled in Florida State University, from which she graduated with a degree in communications and advertising, with a minor in English. Rise in Popularity

In 1998, Howard was cast in one of her most notable roles in the television series “Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place”, playing the titular girl named Sharon Carter. The sitcom starred Richard Ruccolo and Ryan Reynolds before adding additional recurring characters in following seasons. Before its cancellation in 2001, the series used fan votes to determine the finale of the show. While a part of the show, Traylor also worked on the film “Me, Myself & Irene”, in the role of Layla Baileygates, which starred Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger.

Over the next few years, Howard made several guest appearances in popular TV shows, including “The West Wing”, “First Monday”, and “The Division”. She had a regular role in the sitcom “Bram & Alice” which, however, only aired four episodes despite having filmed nine. Her next project was the film “Son of the Mask”, intended as a stand-alone sequel to the Jim Carrey film “The Mask”, also starring Jamie Kennedy, Alan Cumming and Kal Penn.

Monk and Later Career

In 2005, Traylor was cast in the third season of the show “Monk”, replacing Bitty Schram who left the show after a contract dispute, and would stay with the show for the entirety of its run. The series focuses on the titular character, Adrian Monk as he solves crimes similar to those in a police procedural series, although the show went on to exhibit comedy as well as exploration of the personal lives of its main characters. The show became highly popular, and she played the role of Natalie Teeger, Monk’s second and final assistant, a young widow with a daughter, who usually tells Monk when his eccentricities are going too far.

The show held the most-watched scripted drama episode in cable television history from 2009 to 2012, until it was broken by “The Walking Dead”. She won a Gracie Allen Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series during the end of the show. After her run with “Monk”, she then appeared in a pilot for the series “Nolan Knows Best”, but which was unsuccessful, and she has not taken any more acting projects since.

Personal Life

For her personal life, it is known that Howard has married three times. Her first marriage was in 1991 to actor Cameron Hall but it ended two years later. Her second was in 2003 to actor Christian Navarro, but it ended after three years. In 2006, she gave birth to a son and had to spend several episodes of “Monk” with newspapers, boxes, and the like in front of her abdomen to hide the fact that she was pregnant. In 2011, she married Jarel Portman and they had son a year later. Many believe that she decided to focus more on raising a family, which is why she is no longer taking acting work.

Love Monk and Taylor Howard as Natalie,….so hoping this show would never run out of re-runs…it’s our very favorite program. I’m retired and look forward to the marathons, wish they were on more often. I’ve watched them over and over…please keep Mon on. Thank you.
