She had very close and warm relationship with her mother, and once shared her feelings for her: ‘My mother is the person who has had the most positive influence in my life. Every day, I think about her, and my luck to have had her in my life, as MY mom. She had lifelong health problems and that never slowed her down. She accomplished more in her life than most people given the gift of health do’.
Deirdre attended Council Rock High School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and matriculated in 1989. Then she entered Iowa University, and graduated in 1993 with a BA in English and French literature, and later obtained an MD in French literature from New York University. She enjoyed working in the show, but had an accident while playing baseball with her family on a calm weekend day. She didn’t mention what exactly happened to her, but in 2017 she had to take a big break from her work to recover. She shared in her first interview with FBN that she felt that massive support from her colleagues and viewers who constantly asked what was going on with Deirdre and how she felt. She said she appreciated that as the recovery period took much longer than anyone could imagine, so she definitely needed this support to get back to the work she likes so much.
Getting back to work
When Deirdre was finally allowed back to work, she returned to her duties at FBN. She covered many financial stories and reports, including interviewing Christina Romer, Chief Economist to the former President Barack Obama, and with such notable people as Richard Clarida, the PIMCO Strategic advisor, and David Rubenstein, the co-founder of Carlyle Group (a financial services corporation which specializes in real assets, corporate private equity, investments and global credit). Deirdre also interviewed other popular financial newsmakers, such as Bill Ackman (CEO of Pershing Square Capital), Gary Parr (Chairman at Lazard Vice) and Wilbur Ross, one of the wealthiest investors in the world.
