She then went to get an MFA in acting at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

She soon began her acting career on Broadway, in numerous productions including “The Taming of the Shrew”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “Much Ado About Nothing”, and “High Fidelity”. She also participated in several off-Broadway productions, such as “Romantic Poetry” and “Measure for Pleasure”. In 2013, she was cast in the world premiere of “Nice Fish”, collaborating with Mark Rylance and poet Louis Jenkins, and then in a production of “Disgraced”, a play by novelist Ayad Akhtar.

Television Roles and Later Work

Swallow would get her first television role in the series “Guiding Light”, which is a soap opera listed as the longest-running television drama in American history. She also had guest roles in other popular shows, such as “The Good Wife”, “NCIS”, “Flight of the Conchords”, and “Southland”. Swallow would then score a regular role in the medical drama series “Monday Mornings”, in which she played Dr. Michelle Robidaux in the show which aired on TNT, but for just one season. After appearing in “Rizzoli & Isles”, she then had a starring role in “The Mentalist” as Kim Fischer through 2013-14, a police procedural series following former “psychic” Patrick Jane, who is a consultant to the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

After her run with “The Mentalist”, she had a guest role in “How to Get Away with Murder”, before being cast in the 11th season of “Supernatural” in 2015, as the protagonist of that season Amara or “the Darkness”. The fantasy horror series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as two brothers hunting various supernatural beings. She also had roles in various films, including “The Lucky Ones” and “The Odds”. After working on one season with “Supernatural”, she then voiced Lisa Tepes in the animated series “Castlevania”.

Other Work

Emily has also tried her hand at various voice acting roles in video games, having lent her voice in the 2015 game “The Order: 1886”, and now to the upcoming game “The Last of Us Part II” in which she has the role of Emily; the release date is yet to be confirmed. She also continues acting on stage whenever she has the time, appearing in various plays such as “The Country House” and “Romantic Poetry”. She isn’t tied to any specific genre in theatre, and jumps between various types of Broadway and off-Broadway productions. She won a Falstaff Award for Best Female Performer for her performance in “The Taming of the Shrew”.

She also had a show with singer/comedian Jac Huberman called “Jac N Swallow” which they performed in New York, and which focuses on the misadventures of the duo as they try to navigate various life challenges.

Social Media and Personal Life

Similar to numerous actresses, Swallow is very active on social media on which she promotes some of her most recent work through websites such as Twitter and Instagram. One of her recent projects is the Shakespeare play “Henry IV” in which she stars alongside Tom Hanks. She also recently joined numerous actors, producers and other personalities in trying to save the “Supernatural” spin-off series “Wayward Sisters”. On Instagram, she posts a lot of pictures of behind the scenes with other actors and while on sets of her recent projects. She also posts pictures of her travels, with friends, and some of her daily endeavors.

Emily is still single, and the media hasn’t even unearthed any rumours of romantic associations, even though she’s in her late ‘30s. During her free time, Swallow supports numerous charities, and has done volunteer work for The Surfrider Foundation which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of oceans and beaches.
