British actress and director Emily ‘Eve’ Best was born in Ladbroke Grove, London, England, on 31 July 1971, making Leo her zodiac sign. She has 31 acting credits, and is perhaps known best for portraying Wallis Simpson in the critically acclaimed 2010 biographical historical movie “The King’s Speech”, which starred Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, and was directed by Tom Hooper. It follows the life of King George VI, as well as the life of his speech therapist, and the movie won 108 of its 314 award nominations, including four Oscars wins, some of which for Best Motion Picture of the , , Best Achievement in Directing and Best Writing, Original Screenplay, and Actor in a Leading Role (Colin Firth).

Education and early life

Eve was raised in London alongside her younger sister whose name remains undisclosed, by their parents about whom Eve rarely speaks in public, as she respects their privacy; it’s known that her mother was an actress, and her father a design journalist.

Eve was nine when she appeared in a theatre play for the first time, and already decided at that age that she wanted to become a famous actress. She studied at Wycombe Abbey Girls’ School and appeared in a number of school plays, but still remained focused on her studies.

Eve matriculated in 1989, and then enrolled at Lincoln College, Oxford from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English language and literature in 1993; she spent the following a couple of years performing in productions of the Oxford University Dramatic Society, while she made her professional debut at the Southwark Playhouse, portraying Beatrice in Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing”.

In 2001, she starred as Ellen McGillivray in all six episodes of the fantasy horror mini-series “The Infinite Worlds of H. G. Wells”, which also starred Tom Ward and Barry Stanton, and follows newspaper reporter Ellen McGillivray who’s just learned about the existence of other worlds. The remainder of the 2000s saw Eve appear in an episode or two of the biographical adventure mini-series “Shackleton”, the crime mystery “Waking the Dead”, and another crime series “The Inspector Lynley Mysteries”.

From 2009 through 2015, she played Dr. Eleanor O’Hara in 51 episodes of the popular comedy “Nurse Jackie”, which starred Merritt Wever and Edie Falco, and was created by Evan Dunsky and Liz Brixius. It follows the life of a drug addict nurse, and the series won 15 of its 106 award nominations.

Eve’s also known for portraying Anna Clayton in 20 episodes of the popular crime action “Lucky Man”, which starred Sienna Guillory and James Nesbitt, and was created by Stan Lee and Neil Biswas. It follows the life of a brilliant police officer who has the ability to control luck – the series was nominated for two awards.

Eve’s two most recent TV series roles have been playing Farah Dowling in seven episodes of the 2022 action adventure “Fate: The Winx Saga”, and the lead character Rosaline in all three episodes of the 2023 drama mini-series “Maryland”.

Eve’s debut film role was starring as Nina in the 2001 short drama “Brilliant!”, and the year 2004 saw her play Yuni in the short drama “The Lodge”.

Also in 2004, Eve portrayed the lead character Roselyn Tyler in the crime thriller “Lie with Me”, which also starred Andrew Lincoln and Jasper Jacob, and was directed by Susanna White; it follows Ros Tyler who’s awakened after having been drugged, and has learned that she’s been sexually assaulted, and that her flatmate’s been killed.

Eve’s following role came in 2012, when cast to play Beatrice in the Shakespearean comedy “Much Ado About Nothing”, and the year 2013 saw her play Sally Ride in the historical drama “The Challenger Disaster”, which starred William Hurt and Kevin McNally, and was directed by James Hawes. It tells the story of the disintegration of the 1985 space shuttle Challenger; the film won one of its three award nominations.

Eve’s three most recent movie roles have been in the 2016 short drama “The Complete Walk: Antony and Cleopatra”, another 2016 short drama “The Complete Walk: The Taming of the Shrew”, and the 2018 comedy “A Woman of No Importance”.
